USF ME-MSN Summer 2021

Published

Hi everyone!! I didn't see a thread here so I'm starting one for the University of San Francisco's (USF) ME-MSN program for non-nurses for the San Francisco campus! The deadline is actually today (1/15/2021) and I was wondering who else applied! Good luck y'all and I hope we all get in together :-))

I got in y’all!! I’m so emotional right now!! AHH.

Congrats!! How exciting! Would you mind sharing your stats and any info they provided (semester start date, tuition fee deadline, intent deadline etc.)?

Waitlisted too but opting to do an ADN at Yuba College - closer to home and local clinicals. Then do a bridge to MSN. Best of luck to all!

I was rejected?. To get a better understanding for next time would any of you who were waitlisted or accepted share some of your stats. I would really appreciate it. Good luck to everyone that one got in and that is on the waitlist!

I’m sorry, this process is so random with each school. I don’t know what my cumulative GPA was, since I had a mix of schools (Summer classes and transfer units for undergrad), along with my pre-reqs from another school, I think around 3.4-3.5. I have over 35,000 hours of patient care experience, and over 1700 hours of volunteer experience, with some leadership roles, and various certifications including EMT-B. It sounds like a lot of us are waitlisted, so hopefully we see some movement on the list!

Are you waiting on other schools still? Fortunately there is another cycle opening up in a few months with a lot of great schools, so if it doesn’t work out this round, the next one is coming up quick!  Wishing you all the best and hope it works out for you with another program. ♥️

I’m sorry ? this process can be so frustrating and it can be so hard to know where you stand as an applicant because schools aren’t very transparent about what they’re looking for. I don’t know how much help I will be but I can give you insight into my experience. I applied to 5 schools (UCLA, USD, USF, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins) and the only one I got accepted to was John Hopkins which is ironically the top rated program haha. Anyway, as for stats I had around a 3.5 overall GPA and around the same in my prerequisites. I worked as a CNA in a SNF and a hospital for over 2000 hours and had some other volunteer clinical experience. I got letters of recommendation from the unit manager on my floor and from a professor I knew decently well and was the director of the nutrition program at my school. I worked really hard on my personal statement and was really proud of it in the end. This process can suck but I think it comes down to a numbers game and there’s just way more applications then spots which sucks but it doesn’t mean you’re not qualified or that you wouldn’t be a fantastic nurse. Good luck to you!

I got rejected... super bummed but I wonder why

I also got waitlisted...This is my second time applying to USF and got waitlisted also... Not sure how long they'll let us know whether we got in from waitlist but I will probably attend UIC since I got accepted there. Goodluck everyone!

Hi Everyone... my name is Heather and I am the President-Elect of the Graduate Nursing Association (GNA) at USF.

First, I just want to say to anyone who received a rejection... do. not. give. up! You will find a program (here or elsewhere) and you will be a nurse. I remember my rejections like yesterday and they still sting. Keep going, you've got this.

For the waitlisted, there are multiple people in my cohort who were waitlisted, so take a deep breath (easier said than done, I know!) and give it some time until you know one way or the other. Wishing every one of you all the luck!

To anyone accepted at the SF campus, it is a good idea to make a facebook group so you can all connect. Please post the link here. I (and others in GNA) will be joining to help you all get the ball rolling! I'll keep an eye out for a facebook group to join. ?

Hi there, I’m sorry for your rejection, I got rejected as well. My pre req GPA is a 3.4 and I’ve worked as a Health Services Specialist (very similar to a medical assistant) at Planned Parenthood for about a year and a half. I’m still waiting to hear back from a few schools but I’m planning on retaking some pre reqs to improve grades over the Summer. I’m not looking forward to going through the whole application process again, but I’m so determined to become a nurse, and eventually a nurse practitioner. I’m bummed too, but we’re going to get accepted somewhere and I hope you don’t plan on giving up!

P.S. Congrats to everyone who got accepted! I hope the start of your nursing career is nothing short of amazing! ❤️

Waitlisted. Bummer!

A bit surprised. I guess it’s time to start working on next semester’s application.

I got rejected but to anyone else who is going to apply to schools again, I would recommend DePaul in Chicago. They accepted me even tho my GPA was way below their minimum because I had a unique story and good grades in prereqs. To those who got in, congrats! You should feel very proud because it’s competitive. To those who were waitlisted, I’m sorry. You deserve better and SF is really expensive anyway. Keep your options open and give yourself a chance to live in a cool city you never would have otherwise. If I can get in somewhere good, so can you.  Best of luck to absolutely everyone.
