USF College of Nursing?

Published

Just wondering if anyone is in the nursing program at USF-Tampa. If so, what has your experience been so far? Also, What kind of hospital/medical work did you do before you applied? I was considering volunteering at University Community Hospital, despite the kind of shady things I keep hearing about it. I'm graduating in May with a different BA, so I'm trying to figure out what steps I should take to get myself into the accelerated 2nd bachelor's program quickly.

Thanks in advance!

i'm applying for the accelerated bsn program for fall 09 too... a couple people on here told me good things - i'll try to pm you what they sent me.

Got your message. Thanks so much for passing that info along to me! I really appreciate it. You'll be starting earlier than me. I still need to do pre-reqs, so I probably won't apply until summer 2010. I wish I switched to nursing earlier! Keep me posted on your experience!

you are very much welcome (: i'll let you know if i get in - but i won't know until july - keeping my fingers crossed! good luck to you as well as you go through your pre-reqs.

I'm working on my prereqs as well, working on applying for the acc. BSN for summer 2010. UF in Gainesville is actually my 1st choice school but I am looking into USF as being my 2nd.

One of my prereq classes didn't transfer, so I can't get in at USF... I was starting to think Tampa wasn't for me anyway, so I'm thinking everything happens for a reason. I'll apply somewhere else next year (most likely not in Florida, I need a change of scenery!!)... Good luck to you!

Man, that's lame. Yeah, you're probably right. I'd rather go out of state, but FL is just so damn cheap and they repay your loans. Good luck to you, too!

yes i'm pretty bummed about it... usf is a good school. but i'm trying to be positive. who knows, maybe i'll stick around and try again 2010... my plans are pretty open at this point. good luck to you!

i am waiting to hear back form the college of nursing to see if i got in for this fall. one thing you should keep in mind is that they say you only need a 3.2 to get in but in reality its a 3.67. the last two semesters, the lowest gpa they took was a 3.67....and they dont look at any previous experience, they strictly go by gpa. im a medic and asked if that would help me any...a big no. hopefully ill get in, and if i do ill be more than happy to let you know how it is

Which GPA do they look at? Do they just go by the bachelor's degree cum GPA alone or do they also factor in any undergrad courses (i.e., prereqs) that you took after conferring the bachelor's? I'm just wondering if there is hope for someone to rehabilitate their GPA past graduation. Thanks in advance.

They take a cumulative GPA of ALL classes you have taken for people without a previous Bachelors. In your case I'm not sure but they do hold info seminars where I'm sure you can get an answer. You can find the date and times on the college of nursing page. See Here--->http://health.usf.edu/nocms/nursing/docs/student_services/InformationSessions.pdf

The next one is July 16 @ 12pm in MDN 2007.

Before you start, I know that you have to change your major to pre-nursing as an undergraduate. Make sure that all your pre-reqs are accepted by USF....the info seminar I went to a girl had taken a child psych class and it didnt count as the psych pre-req for the college because it was too specific, so beware of that.

Hope this helps some :wink2:

I'm going to the info session tomorrow, anyone else going?

Also anyone heard about the summer program for 2010?
