  1. Just got my acceptance email to SCF today! Anyone else attending in fall 2013? Are there any recent SCF nursing students that have any advice for first-years or good/bad experiences to share? Thanks and good luck to everyone in the application process. Took me 3 years after graduating with another degree. Worth the long wait :).
  2. Hello Bradenton/Sarasota residents, I am planning to apply to SCTI's program this October. I just attended their LPN info session, and I have to say I was really impressed with how helpful and professional their staff was. I was expecting much worse. I was just wondering if there was anyone else who is planning to or has already attended their program? What are your thoughts on it? Any insight into the current LPN job market in the Sarasota/Bradenton area? Thanks!
  3. I'm in FL and they don't allow you to restart. I finished my course and haven't tested yet, but when I've practiced I have had trouble finding it in some people. I also have a pretty cheap stethoscope so that doesn't help. If I can hear it faintly, I just place the diaphragm there and once I start pumping I don't have a problem. It really just takes practice.
  4. Don't worry about what your bf says. I just finished my CNA course today and before I started I called my local hospitals/facilities and found out which ones hire newbies. My CNA instructor also gave us a list of facilities that do. Doing some research may will give you piece of mind. Good luck!
  5. Man, that's lame. Yeah, you're probably right. I'd rather go out of state, but FL is just so damn cheap and they repay your loans. Good luck to you, too!
  6. Thanks everyone, I appreciate your input!
  7. Good points. On that note, can anyone who's taken A & P online share how the labs were done?
  8. Hi everyone, My school offers A & P 1 in person and online. The in-person classes are full and I was just wondering, for anyone who has already taken it, if you would recommend taking it online? I know sometimes online classes can be even harder so I was just wondering if anyone had difficulties with that or if taking it online made little difference. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for your feedback. I'm aware of tuition reimbursement and am open to that also. However, it's not my first time in college (I have a non-medical degree) and the GI Bill is not something I'm willing to consider. I have no problem staying with a hospital for X number of years after my degree because I'm looking for places where I'd be willing/able to relocate. So ideally, I want to stay put.
  10. Hi everyone, I've got 7 pre-req classes to go before I apply to nursing school and I'm researching good schools in Florida or schools in other states that have a nursing student loan forgiveness program like FL does. With the nursing shortage, there are a lot of opportunities for a good, free education. My hometown is Miami and I know Baptist Hospital has a Nursing Scholars Program that pays for your school. If you know any others in FL, or know states w/good schools that offer some type of loan forgiveness OR that have good hospitals that pay employees' nursing education, share your research with me and I'll share mine with you. Thanks :)
  11. Got your message. Thanks so much for passing that info along to me! I really appreciate it. You'll be starting earlier than me. I still need to do pre-reqs, so I probably won't apply until summer 2010. I wish I switched to nursing earlier! Keep me posted on your experience!
  12. Hey, I'm looking into that medical prep of pinellas course. Can someone who's taken it tell me how it went? Did you feel prepared for the CNA exam? Thanks!
  13. Hi everyone, Does anyone know how many people get accepted at a time to the Accelerated BSN? I'm at USF in Tampa now and they only take 24! It's ridiculous. Just trying to do some research on other FL schools. Thanks?
  14. I was referring to entry-level jobs like clerical work a medical office. I'm not in nursing school yet.
