USF ABSN 2017

U.S.A. Florida

Hi! Anyone applying for USF (University of South Florida) ABSN for 2017? I can't seem to find anyone!

Hi all!!

I also applied for USF's summer absn program and I am absolutely petrified. I have a 3.78 overall gpa but not sure about my pre req gpa. When will we hear about interviews? Does anyone know the types of questions they ask??

Hello! I sent a discussion on the SOAR website and asked when we should hear back and they responded and said that we should hear back about a week after the deadline whether or not we get an interview or are not moving along with the process.

Good luck! I am so nervous!

We are officially AFTER the deadline. Good luck everyone and keep us posted as you hear (or I guess, don't hear :() about interviews!

Thanks acroso93 for finding out that information. Hopefully it'll be within the week instead of one week after the deadline. I keep checking my email today as if they're already sending out invitations. lol. I think I'm being a little inpatient. Good luck to everyone. Please post if you receive any word from the CON admissions! :D

No problem! I am being so impatient as well, the waiting game is AWFUL. Good Luck to you!

Hey seb813, what do you mean with "they only look at 4 classes instead of all those listed on the USF site"?

If this is true, I just increased my chances since the only class I have a B is the spawn of Satan: Statistics. lol

I have an A in micro and A&P! and the classes I have B's are the ones when I first started college (6 years ago): nutrition, psychology...etc.

Those "B"'s are the one to bring my GPA down!

Anyway, your post just gave me some hope, because at this point I am really not expecting at all to be called into this program!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

It didn't make any sense to me but that's what they said during their "webinar" session. Out of the 27 credits they list on the USF site for pre-reqs, they only look at 13 of those credits to calculate your pre-req GPA. I forgot to screenshot that slide during the powerpoint so I called a few days later and they told me they only look at those 4 specific courses in the list of pre-reqs. In opinion, this doesn't make sense. How do you gather a GPA from only 4 classes? That's not a true average. For me, this really hurts my pre-req GPA because I have an A in every single pre-req course except micro.

That really stinks! I was under the impression that the science GPA was seen as it's own. In other schools I have applied to, they have looked at Overall GPA, Science pre req GPA, and non science GPA. Maybe that is what they mean at USF? :/

I get what you mean. Doesn't make it a "true" GPA. Weird. Maybe they just meant the science GPA is weighed the most heavily in terms of admission/interviews?...

I know what you mean. UF does their application like that. However, from everything USF has said, it's exactly as I described before. They SHOULD calculate a GPA for all the classes they list as pre-reqs if they want two separate GPA numbers to rate applicants. Nothing we can do though. I

I would love for others to call the CON and confirm what they told me. See if everybody gets the same answer.

I also applied for this summer cohort and I was told basically the same thing. I have met with the nursing adviser several times now as well and the grades really are the first filter they use, and then the interview to screen people. They are accepting 50 students for this summer, which is 20 more than last summer. I was told last week that notices for interviews/ denials are sent from March 8-10th, which is a little longer than 1 week as was previously stated above. Interviews take place from March 20-22nd with a panel of two faculty. Hope that helps, I am checking my email every 5 minutes for the next three days.

Thank you for the information! Super helpful, I have been checking every five minutes also, the wait is the WORST!

I have just received word that I got an interview slot! Good luck to everyone else! Hopefully you will be notified soon :)
