USF ABSN 2017
I'm pretty devastated about not getting accepted. Biomedical Sciences, Honors College, 3.85 GPA cumulative, 3.67 Pre-req (3.88 if all the pre-reqs are included). I don't feel I could have had better grades. I guess they didn't like something I said during my interview. I must have said something. I really don't know. I'm personable, friendly, chose nursing for the right reasons, and have 2 years of experience as a PCT at St. Joes. But I guess I have to find the strength to not get discouraged and try again.

For those who got accepted, would anybody be willing to share their GPAs?

Everything that was stated was correct. I was also told that just for the accelerated program there were approx ~120 invitations sent out and about 10 person that didn't respond or make a reservation to interview. There are 50 spots so essentially there are 2-3 people fighting for each seat. Those are pretty good odds actually. I felt the interviews were devised to be very smooth and not intimating. My interviewers were very nice and explained everything before they began asking me questions so I knew what to expect. I thought the questions were pretty straight forward and allowed people of all walks of life and career fields to easily draw up an example to answer them fully. I felt very confident leaving the room. With that said, I was still sooo nervous when I first sat down in the room. My heart was pounding out of my chest. By question #2 I calmed down and finally was able to think more clearly. I'm curious to know how other's experiences were.

From what I understand, all the universities are super competitive. UF's application required you to calculate all your science classes and so much more but it looks like they switched over to a centralized application system similar to physician assistant school or medical school applications. UF and USF don't require the TEAS test, UCF does. I've heard that HCC has a waiting list, although I think they are doing away with that. Another great school is PHSC but it's in Pasco county. They have multiple campuses and nursing classes at each campus. There is also SPC. On the private side, there's UTICA and Rasmussen. Both are super expensive but they have accelerated BSN programs.

I just got my email too! I got an invitation to interview! :) Best of luck to everyone. Glad to hear they have 50 spots for the program. That's great news for all of us!

Congratulations! Can you tell us your GPA's? Do they send out the invitations through email?

I know what you mean. UF does their application like that. However, from everything USF has said, it's exactly as I described before. They SHOULD calculate a GPA for all the classes they list as pre-reqs if they want two separate GPA numbers to rate applicants. Nothing we can do though. I I would love for others to call the CON and confirm what they told me. See if everybody gets the same answer.

It didn't make any sense to me but that's what they said during their "webinar" session. Out of the 27 credits they list on the USF site for pre-reqs, they only look at 13 of those credits to calculate your pre-req GPA. I forgot to screenshot that slide during the powerpoint so I called a few days later and they told me they only look at those 4 specific courses in the list of pre-reqs. In opinion, this doesn't make sense. How do you gather a GPA from only 4 classes? That's not a true average. For me, this really hurts my pre-req GPA because I have an A in every single pre-req course except micro.

Thanks acroso93 for finding out that information. Hopefully it'll be within the week instead of one week after the deadline. I keep checking my email today as if they're already sending out invitations. lol. I think I'm being a little inpatient. Good luck to everyone. Please post if you receive any word from the CON admissions!

Hey everyone. I'm surprised there's not more discussion on this thread seeing as we're only a month away from interview invitations. I hope we hear from more applicants so we all can see how stack up. I'm worried about my pre-req GPA. I felt confidant until I found out they only look at 4 classes instead of all those listed on the USF site. A&P 1 and 2 (lectures only), Micro, and Stats. So this brought my pre-req GPA down to a 3.69 because of a B in micro. My first degree was a BS in biomedical sciences...3.85 GPA. I don't know which GPA is weighted heavier when they consider applicants. I assume the cumulative/overall. Too bad they don't look at work and volunteering history. :/ Does anyone know when they might send out interview invitations to those selected?
