US Associate Degree RN obtaining RN license in Alberta Canada

Published

My husband accepted a job in Alberta Canada and I would like to work as a RN there. I have been a nurse for 6 years with 6 years of ICU experience as well as many certifications. I also fill in as relief Charge Nurse on a pretty regular basis. I have an associates in nursing. I read some old threads from before the NCLEX became mandatory in most parts of Canada. I have contacted the CARNA asking specifically if I qualify to apply to be a Ca RN with an associates. They didn't answer my question only told me to submit my NNAS application which requires a $650 fee. Does anyone know the CURRENT rules on this?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Until the college assesses your application they can not make a decision and NNAS is part of the application process.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Know the minimum degree for RN in Canada is the BScN/BSN. LPNs have a 2yr college degree. There is no definitive until assessed by NNAS

Hi there I know this is a bit of a late reply .. But could you please fill me in on what has happened with your degree? I am a Canadian whos studying nursing in Las Vegas as an international student. My plan was to take my associates degree and do a bridge program to another school here that my school is officiated with. I just found out that the bridging school only does their bachelor program online and as an international student I am not allowed to take online classss. I've tried researching to find out if I take my associates degree here if I can do some upgrading when I get back home. Any info would be great!
