Hi!
I'm looking to relocate to Albany area of NY within the next year or so, and I'm wondering what the starting salaries of hospitals in upstate NY are like. I am a BSN new grad. I know the cost of living is significantly lower than where I'm from (Northern NJ) but I have some student loans that I'm trying to nip in the butt, and I'm hoping I can find a hospital that's salary and benefits meet my needs :) I'm also willing to consider Hudson Valley/Poughkeepsie area as well. Thanks!
A little off topic but I have always compared my pay in NYC to upstate.
im buying a 800k home and I make
49$/ hr as a nurse with 2 years experience. The homes are like 1/8 the price upstate but salary is half but I'm so use to making this amount that it's hard to imagine making less. I bet cali and NYC sets up bad ideas of salary in the field of nursing in the rest of the country. But I hear many upstate nurses say their standard of living is better upstate.

My experience here isn't so much a thrill as I expected. I can surely say that pay is a down fall and living expenses is not so much different with NJ depending where you leave and pay in Nj is better... apartments are about the same price with central jersey or slightly cheaper. I have family/ friends who are also nurses living in Nj who certainly agree that their is a huge gap when we discuss our career experiences. New York taxes are higher which makes it another down fall. If it is nothing important you are searching for in upstate, I would say Nj. I plan on moving to elsewhere soon due to these reasons. Hense, this is the good reason of researching before doing actions.
Sorry for my late reply

Hey annondara!
I haven't moved yet, but I have accepted an offer at St. Peter's contingent on my passing the NCLEX next month. Have you started yet? Would love to hear more about your experience !
