I have interviews next week at :
1) Albany Medical Center
2) Glens falls Hospital
3) St. Peters Health Partners.
To be frank, Im not too happy to be heading back Upstate, since I left there to find work in NYC after gaining some experience.
But Ive been on tons of interviews in NYC all to no result.
All my Albany Med, Glens Falls employee, or St. Peters folks, If you can shed some information about these hospitals I would appreciate it.
Salary:
Hospital Status:
Best place for housing. :
Your experience there:
I plan on doing a few more years and try again in NYC or just move to another state entirely. Life has been rough these 2 years. The country life really isn't for me but I have to do what I have to.
Thank you

Best not to advertise your dissatisfaction with your current interview possibilities. You never know who's watching you on this public forum.

I understand how you feel. I was able to get a job as new grad 9 months after NCLEX at a city hospital in NYC. Now that I have experience I am trying to move to a more "critical care" type of specialty L and D, NICU, PICU, ICU, etc. I am having a hard time though. EIther I do not get calls or the two interviews I had didnt hire me bc I didnt have "exact unit experience". Then I find out they hired new grads for those same units. If people like me with two years acute care experience do not have "unit specific" experience neither do new grads! Very frustrating in NYC. I feel I cannot advance my knowledge and skills.
@roser13. Thanks for your input, but my dissatisfaction is not with my current interview opportunities or with these hospitals, but that I am not a country type person and I left there, and have to go back. Any opportunity is a great opportunity, Life outside of it is whats challenging for me.
@MissJessRN It's very frustrating. I spend two years to get exp. to relocate to NYC to find work, and it seems like people with 3 years exp is preferred there now. I cant get a break. There are new grads getting jobs into ER Departments which is my passion!! but my 2 years exp cant get me in. It's frustrating. But I cant sit around, eventually the right opportunity should come by. In the mean time, Im taking advantage of the opportunities in front of me.
BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! missJESSRN
Anyone have any input on these 3 hospitals. Salary, Experience, Anything.
I will appreciate it.

This doesn't really answer your question, but if you're moving upstate you should consider Buffalo. I just moved here from NYC about 6 months ago and it's actually not a terrible place to be. There is a ton of development going on downtown, a good amount of stuff to do, and it still has a pretty urban feel. There are a lot of hospitals here and the job market and salaries are pretty good. I'm not a country person either by any means, and Buffalo is just urban enough that I can handle being here. And the cost of living is super low. Plus round trip flights to NYC are only around $160 and it's just an hour and a half flight. :)

Im from NYC so i know how it is. Sigh. But upstate isnt that bad. I went to school out here and had to return for employment.
St. Peters
salary: $23.07 (base) $27.07 (nights) $30.07 (weekend)
Housing: it depends on you as a person. If you want that "albany city" experience... stay in albany. Colonie can be expensive to rent but nice area. Which is maybe 10 or so mins from the hospitals depending. Troy is 15-20 mins away from st. Peters and albany med. Gas is cheaper and cost of living is cheaper. Troy is definitely NOT country. I'm in my mid twenties and downtown troy has a lot to offer.
Experience: St. Peters is a magnet hospital. Not a teaching hospital like albany med. I have a few friends who work at albany med. And they say they feel like robots. They don't feel like nurses per say. They feel like they just push around a WOW. dispense meds. Document assessments. I have never worked there so I don't know. St. Peters is a great hospital. I enjoy working there. I work nights and I love it. You end up feeling like you have nurse friends in other departments like the ED even though you've never met them. Lol only interaction is getting report on your patient. There is good and bad everywhere you go but I enjoy st. Peters. IMHO Having a great manager is 50% of your work experience. Keep that in mind.
Good luck
