2016 UPenn BSN/MSN Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I couldn't find a thread for the UPenn BSN/MSN 2016 summer applicants, so I decided to start one. I think it will be a great way for us to connect and support each other.

Is anyone else on here currently applying?

Best of luck.

In the original comment stating that Columbia's masters is generalist, is that just referring to the first 15 months which is a masters (Masters direct entry)? I'm pretty sure the remaining 3 years of the DNP are all within the specialty chosen, but please correct me if I'm wrong! I am curious to hear.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm really confused on that front, in particular. Columbia's website parallels what you're saying, but I think we need to contact the Admissions office to confirm if this is true. If the first 15 months of the entire program are generalist, I am ok with that, assuming that the remaining 3 are all speciality focused. Let's keep each other informed about this since this is a major deal breaker for me!

From what I understand the Master's generalist won't hurt us or prevent us from practicing our specialties in any way. Just like you can get a general Master's from UCLA, Hopkins, Mass General etc, it's a RN program that happens to be at the Master's level. So in reality, Penn's/Columbia's organization is pretty much the same except you walk away with different degrees. Penn's is a BSN/MSN and Columbia's is a MSN/PhD. We can't start the 2nd specialized portion of either program until we are RN's with a degree, one is just a BSN and one is a MSN. Technically Columbia would get you started on your speciality even faster because the MSN is only 15 months rather than a 18 month BSN at Penn. If anyone has heard otherwise please correct me.

Does anyone know when/where financial aid is supposed to be posted?

Hi There! For those of us that were curious about the wait list, I just received an email from admissions that said the wait list is not ranked and if they are able to pull from it, the committee meets again to make decisions. Further, last year they did not admit anyone from the wait list but they did the previous two years.

So! Fingers are still crossed.

I didn't get an email and I emailed them the day I found out about my decision to be waitlisted. Can you send me the whole email? I'm worried that they didn't put me on the waitlist!

Did anyone apply for the FNP msn at either Columbia or U Penn? I applied to both and was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet.

Yes, I'm happy to forward you the email if you message me your address!

I'm confused because the application for u penn isn't due until March 15!?

Did anyone apply for the accelerated nursing scholarship essay? Did they say what the maximum possible award amount was?

It was a max of 500 words! I believe some, if not all, scholarship recipients received their emails today.

@hummingbirdheartbeat the emails were sent out today? D: Did you get one? I didn't get an email, but hopefully theyre still sending them out and I'll hear something tomorrow!

lol I know it was 500 words, I meant max $ :)
