2013 UPenn BSN/MSN Applicants

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi Everyone! This topic thread is for those applying to UPENN BSN/MSN program summer 2013. I hope we can create a support network here!

I will be applying to the nurse-midwifery and WHNP program and have begun writing my personal statement. Their application should be completely available July 15th but you should be able to create an account. Good luck everyone!

I am totally getting a dog in grad school too! I was thinking a shiba inu. Good running dogs but still small and apartment friendly :-)Also, our imaginary house will also have space for a rice cooker steamer.I bake a ton as well. School will be great so we have an audience to cook for :-) I mostly bake vegan though--I promise you all wouldn't be able to tell the difference and it is more health and environment friendly!

I absolutely love this new trend of posting fun hopeful wishes for our possible futures at UPenn!!! I think it would be awesome to rent that huge house that lifeismuzik posted :)

To pass the time before Tuesday (and also to pass the time before I move to whatever grad school I end up at), I have started volunteering at my local SPCA. [My family dog passed away in November and I need the puppy-love, especially now because this waiting is so stressful!] Anyway- I absolutely felly in LOVE with this adorable dog: Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Pointer | Charlottesville, VA | Mia-Mae She is the sweetest! And I love that some of you have already expressed wanting a dog!! I know that having and caring for a dog on one's own during nursing school would be next to impossible- but if we all band together we can give that dog soooo much love and attention!

Also- to pass the time- I started watching Downton Abbey... I was ashamed at first- but now I'm just obsessed. [i havent started Season 3 yet, so no spoilers, please!]

Oh! and I love to bake, too!!! I've never tried vegan baking but I have heard it's surprisingly delicious!

Fingers cross'd- I love your drink idea come decision time. Definitely made me smile:)

I Really want to get a dog too (preferably a bichon frise) but I'm afraid we'll be at school or clinicals too long and the poor dog would have to stay in the apartment for 6+ alone. I wonder what our class schedule would be like and how long our breaks would be throughout the day.

@fingerscross'd, I have also been obsessively watching Downton Abbey! I watched two seasons in a week. Woops! It's great though. Also, I want in on this house share! I have a goldendoodle named Linus to contribute! He's the sweetest, cuddliest and most well behaved dog I've ever met! I don't know how to cook but I have a juicer and a dehydrator and we can make tons of healthy snacks :)

I'm loving all of these posts, haha. I definitely don't need a relationship, but I'm hoping to meet someone! I love baking too, and I cook often but I only eat chicken so that may not appeal to you guys haha. Holly, your dog sounds adorable!

I love juicing and dehydrating! Those have been the next two kitchen Gadgets I want. I love my rice cooker steamer since it saves the water soluble nutrients that drip off the veggies in the rice. My wok, food processor and tea pot are close behind. If multiple people share a home together, the dogs would not be alone all that much. I am sure our classes won't all be at the same time. I would also run with a dog or two and if we had a house there could maybe be a small yard.I am glad you are all ok with the detour of these posts. I am sure there is much more to each of us than our anxiety about the grad programs :-)

You guys are so awesome! i love this thread and I, too, want in on this house share. Reading over these past few pages, it seems none of us will ever go hungry or be lacking in baked goods :) I'd love to have a dog too but who will take care of it during our breaks and summers?

And my fantasy would include having a piano in the living room. Anybody here play a musical instrument?? We can start a band lol.

Anyone into running (slowly) or spinning? Lol :)

Totally down for a piano. Or at least a keyboard as broke grad school students ha. I have a nice set of klipsch speakers to contribute. Also, I love running but am totally about distance over speed :-)

@hopefulnurse24: I will run slowly with you!

I will run slowly with everyone!! I am getting so pumped for this house share- I can see it now: Downton Abbey constantly playing, a cooking/baking fest going on in the kitchen so the house always smells like brownies, a bunch of dogs romping around- happy homemaking! Though in reality, it will likely be a bunch of awesome nurse-nerds drawing names of the muscles/vessels all over each other in washable marker during late night cram sessions... but honestly, either image works for me!

Let's write a letter to UPenn right now and tell them our plan, that we have determined we are all accepted, and that we made the decisions for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled... right?
