Update Thread for New Grads Looking for Jobs in MA

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all. I thought it would be nice to have an update thread for new grads that will be looking for jobs in MA. I'd like to see how everybody's progress is going. :) I am currently still looking for a job....MGH had an update on the new grad program..so I thought I'd give it a try and apply. How is everyone else doing?

I'm in school at Umass Amherst now hoping for a position in Boston. I would love to be able to work in an ED, although seems highly unlikely. I'll probably end up doing med/surg bc I plan on going to grad school in Fall of '08.

I just hope it's not this hard for me either. Good luck and hope you hear soon!

I graduated from UMASS just last spring! UMASS has a contract with St. Elizabeth's and I was able to get in the ED for my internship. You can pick preferences and the school tries to accommodate. I miss Umass...i really hope i find a job soon though..need to start paying back my loans..:uhoh21:

I am also having a horrible time finding a job......boy does it stink!!!! I applied everywhere in Boston myself......no calls yet........

My cousin works at BI...has forever since she graduated Boston City Hospital nursing program eons ago.........

Ya a nurse friend of mine has a sister who works at B&W with cardiac transplant patients in icu and she even said you cannot get in there unless you know someone.......which I don't know why but I guess it's such a great place to work for that's probably why......and she's been there for over 20 years.......

Lots of these places also say BSN preferred or MSN preferred..........I am going for my BSN very very soon I think......

I finally found a job at the BI and been working there for 2 months now and still in orientation (well I'm technically on my own now with "protected assignment") Have you tried applying to the BI? I noticed a couple of positions of Clinical Entry I nurses for Reismann 11. I applied to the BI and they were pretty good about calling people in for interviews and such. I applied twice and got called (didn't get in the first time) but the second time I was able to get something. Hope you find something. Yeah it's so hard finding a job around here! I'm hoping to work on my current floor for a couple of years then either stay at the BI and transfer to the ICU, or reapply to MGH- I really want to work there.

would love more info on this-i'm not even in nursing school yet and am getting very discouraged by all the negative feedback about jobs

would love more info about this-i'm not even in nursing school yet but the feedback about jobs in the Boston area is so discouraging

Congratulations Lena!!! I think you and I talked about how difficult it was to find a job in another post. I just moved to Boston in Dec. from NY where I graduated with an AS in nursing, took my boards on Jan 17 and applied to hospitals like crazy. The way I feel is that a lot of them are full of themselves. I applied to so many hospitals within a 40 mile radius of Boston and have finally been offered a position as of this past Tuesday at Brockton Hospital in Brockton MA. While it's a bit of a drive and doesn't offer the city's high salaries(or so i've been told, i really don't know what Boston hospitals offer), i think it's a good fit for me. It has it's own school of nursing...which is a program I came from, they offer a 4 month orientation and the nurse manager on my new floor is nice as can be. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.

Congratulations on the new job pkin22! Hopefully it all works out!

Thanks Lena!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed. ;)

P.S. I love dolphins too! I'm swimming with them in Mexico this May...so excited!!!
