Update Thread for New Grads Looking for Jobs in MA

Hi all. I thought it would be nice to have an update thread for new grads that will be looking for jobs in MA. I'd like to see how everybody's progress is going. :) I am currently still looking for a job....MGH had an update on the new grad program..so I thought I'd give it a try and apply. How is everyone else doing?

Update: Was called for a couple of interviews today! Have an interview at the VA in West Roxbury next week, and another interview at the Boston Public Health Commission Methdone Clinic in a couple of weeks (though something I'm not really interested in doing...:uhoh21: ). Hopefully it works out...

Hey Lena:

Congrats and good luck...remember to dress professionally...have questions ready to ask !!!!!!!!!!! Let us know how it goes :wink2:

Thanks oualie20 Hope your job searching is going ok. I'll definitely let you know how it goes! :)

Ladies...this absolutely blows my mind that you are having the difficulty you are. I am just starting nursing school this spring, but based upon your difficulty, have opted to pursue an earn as you learn program that will get me with a hospital for 2 years after I graduate. I figure I will gain the experience and do an internship in where I want to specialize and then move up to New England and make the real money. I wish you both the best of luck

Good luck Lena. I hope it works out for you. I have an interview at BI tommorrow. I'm excited and I'm expecting an offer from Union Hospital, which I think has a great new grad program. Im hoping one of the two works out for me. Again I wish you the best of luck.

Is everyone looking only inside the city??? there are advertisements for several hospitals north of boston (lowell, north shore etc?) i know you may not make the big bucks right away but it will still give you great experience!

Thanks guys :) Pebely- good luck with your interview at BI today I did reapply there so maybe I'll here something back later. Wishing you guys luck on the job search.

Reading this post is somewhat scaring me!!

A lot of the students in my program were offered jobs in their internship before they even graduated. And their jobs are being held until they pass the NCLEX. I haven't heard of anyone I know who graduated from a nursing program having such a difficult time. What field are you pursuing?

I'm looking into working a medical/surgical floor. I don't know what to specialize in yet..but most likely ICU after doing med/surg for a few years. I've been applying for jobs since February!!! And this is while I was in my last semester of nursing school. I did my internship at St. Elizabeth's in the Emergency Department. I believe they don't take new grads since most of them prefer RN's with at least 1 year of med/surg experience. Anyways...the ED is a little too fast paced for me..though you do get to see a lot. I learned a lot in my internship. I've been applying to MGH, Brigham (near impossible to get a job there unless you work there as an aide or know someone), and most of the Boston hospitals. I really want to work at MGH, and I did apply to the new grad program...so I'm hoping to hear back from them soon...since I already passed my boards and such. Yeah...I don't know why it's so difficult...I went to school in Amherst but am from around this area....so probably if I had gone to school in Boston I probably would have had better luck finding a job by now..*sigh*

I'm in school at Umass Amherst now hoping for a position in Boston. I would love to be able to work in an ED, although seems highly unlikely. I'll probably end up doing med/surg bc I plan on going to grad school in Fall of '08.

I just hope it's not this hard for me either. Good luck and hope you hear soon!
