Unsure of the official charge

Published

So when I was 19 I got fingerprinted and unsure of what the charge was officially but in 2010 I compleated my LPN and when submitting my application for nclex I didn't know what to write for misdemeanors. So I called the town I lived in and gave my information and the guy said my official charge was compareable with jaywalking and mark no. So I did. I didn't think to get anything official from them but nevertheless I took my boards and got fingerprinted and nothing came back. Now again, I just finished my RN & am filing this question out again and again am nervous. I'd assume I was all clear since I had no issues 5 years ago. Has anyone got any information that could help me here?

It is very important that when you submit your application that everything is correct. If you put down jaywalking or another guess and the board finds something different (believe me, the board WILL find anything against you) you may be in serious trouble. If you say you were convicted of a less serious crime than you actually were, they will see it as being dishonest. Go to the courthouse or run a criminal background check on yourself and you will find the official conviction there. Your nursing license application is not the time to be guessing. Just be forthright and disclose because the board will see any and all convictions. If it is not a serious crime, you should have a very good chance at becoming licensed. Best of luck to you!

That is good advice to get your local history for the most accurate account of your crime. I would do so for your own piece of mind and possibly get an FBI check done also.

However, don't they look for the same things as an LPN? I would think it wouldn't be any different but I don't know much about LPNs and other states.

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. I would read the criminal history and instructions for the application very carefully to make sure that this is something worth spinning your wheels over.

I wish sincere best of luck to you and peaceful state of mind. I really hope everything works out for you - but please let us know how it goes.
