UNLV SON FALL 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! :)

Since the Summer 2018 cohort is about to be announced, I thought I would start the forum for Fall 2018. Who else is applying? I hope the cut off score isn't as high as it was last fall!

I'm in the exact (literally exact) same position as you Lindsay! But as others have already mentioned, I would be extremely shocked to find the cutoff higher than a 96. Like I seriously doubt 48 others got legit straight A's lmao. You've put in the work. Try to relax a little haha

I wish I could relax. My thought is, if you and I can pull off straight A's and get a good HESI score, then 40-some odd people can do it too! (And if they've taken all their classes at UNLV they get additional 0.5 points which puts them above us....)

I just want to know already!

Lmao that's actually really true! I guess I feel a little better because from everyone I've talked to (and it's a lot lmao) the highest I've heard is 94.6 points. And same! July 1-15 can't get here fast enough!

I HOPE that's the highest because that helps me feel a little better about my potential score haha! I would think a bunch of people are in the high 90s like you two, but I have no idea if the extra 0.5 point of "Rebel Recognition" will hurt or benefit most applicants.

I honestly think it's pretty insignificant (thank god) at the end of the day tbh

This honestly gives me so much anxiety! How many people do you know of that are applying? And did they take a majority of their classes at UNLV? That would boost them up to 95.1.

I totally understand! And from what I know, a ton of people are actually too scared to even apply because they're afraid of wasting one of their chances (they think the cutoff will be like super high or something). I've talked to about five different people so far, and it's frustrating because people are so anti-social and tight-lipped about their points lol which makes no sense to me. I'm assuming most of them will get the .5 point boost because, as far as I know, I'm like the only person who took a majority of classes at CSN.

I really want to know how many people transfer over vs. how many people apply directly from UNLV. My theory is that this 0.5 is designed to really help the students who take the majority of their classes at UNLV because transfer students are taking most of the spaces in the program. But if that theory is wrong, then this 0.5 doesn't really help anyone. It doesn't help anyone at UNLV because everyone's points rise, so we're all still basically in the same position (our points are just higher individually, but still ranked the same because of the 0.5 constant). On the transfer end, if there aren't many transfer students there may be a disadvantage for some, but it seems as if transfer students end up having higher scores anyway.

I think the same. It's probably designed to give the edge to UNLV students over transfers who are neck and neck, hence getting a little more UNLV students in. But overall, I don't expect it to do too much

I wish they gave points for volunteering... I feel like that would have made a bigger difference. I don't think the .5 will do much :(

I met another guy applying for fall as well, but he was just so rude when I asked what points he is applying with! I did not know people were this competitive... I just want to make some future possible friends lol. Anywho, he said he estimated to be at about 95- ish points with the extra .5.

I don't understand the rudeness, but I get the competitive-ness of it all. I am also looking for friends I can study with while I'm in the program, but at the same time, all of my potential friends could also "take" my spot.....

I know all nursing schools tend to be hyper competitive, which is just a disadvantage in the long run. It almost cements in the "eat or be eaten" mentality instead of teamwork and cooperation...but that's just my $0.02.....
