2boys1nurse,

I have had to take history, art, college algebra, statistics, and a public speaking class in addition to the BSN classes. I have been taking 1-2 classes a semester and it has been alot of work for me working part time! The semester last 15 weeks, the summer session is 12 weeks.

. Congrats on finishing!!!!! Any suggestions on what classes are best to take together and which classes should be taken individually? I am going to attend this school after all the positive comments I have read. I also appreciate the semesters are 15 weeks; not accelerated. Did you finish the program in 2 years? Were you able to complete the additional pre-req at a community college? Do they offer the books electronically or did you purchase them on your own? Any drawbacks to the program? Again congratulation! Will you next pursue a MSN degree?

wanted to say hi again to everyone, I grad from u of wyo and want to say the classes were all very doable.

2boys1nurse-they have done away with the clinical hours requirement, so I think the class will be you gathering info in your community and writing a paper. They accepted nearly all of my lower division credits without issue (my one problem was with an AP class I passed in high school-they didn't accept it so had to take the class).

good luck

Congrats on graduating! Wow 2 BSN students with positive feedback to University of Wyoming! Any drawbacks to the program? How many classes did you take per semester? Did you attend summer school? Were you working FT, PT or not working at all while attending the program? Going on for MSN? I was feeling a little down about having to pursue a BSN, but now I feel as though I can conquer all with this program. Thanks again for your comments. They are inspirational! Did you already graduate? If so, did you attend the ceremony in Wyoming? Are the papers 5-10 pages in length? I have been out of nursing school since 2006. Don't like writing papers, but I know it is a requirement?

I took classes each semester including summer the first years, actually it seems like I was always in something! I didn't have any trouble with the program, and the only drawback for me was the clinical hours (which they did away with). The first year I took about 4 classes fall and spring, then started toning it down to 2 as I was also going to emt school and working 2 jobs and had 4 kids. I always knew I would go to grad school so that was the draw of completing my bsn from the beginning. applying for 2013 start. Why do you feel that you 'have to' do the BSN? or are you planning on grad school too?

Yes just graduated. I did not attend the ceremonies, altho I originally thought I would, now I am just too busy!

Papers vary in length, each class has at least one, most around 5-10, but one was over 20...just took that long to put in everything they wanted. I think it was the health assessment or family assessment something class. They grade the papers very easily-not like you are in English class and they are raking it over. I am a perpetual student! You will do fine!

Thank you for the quick reply. I just got back from a 2 night stay at a Hotel & Casino in San Diego County. Many employers here in CA are mainly hiring BSN graduates. With the abundant amount of ADN grads they are weeding out those applicants for BSN grads. I think by 2020 they want nurses to have their BSN. I want to have it so I can be more marketable and be qualified for upper management positions if I chose that route. I am not wanting to start until Jan 2013 so I can ensure I get my oldest child situated when he transfers in January 2013 out of state to a 4 yr college; God willing. Unsure of grad school at this time. I can only think as far as a BSN. Depending on the outcome of this task will determine if I go on to grad school. After nursing school, I am not to enthused to return back to school. Both my stress and anxiety level were off the chart and don't wish to visit those moments anytime soon. Thanks again for the positive feedback. I will decide between University of Wyoming and University of Boise.

Oh i got ya...yes places that have a lot of nurses are really starting to look at hiring BSN only, often I see 'bsn preferred' around the country, but not required...at least where I am looking around!

Do not fear that completing your BSN will be anything like your ADN-it's not. Not nearly as stressful, and my program at least, no real tests. Just responding to other students for the most part and papers. Pharm and pathophys were of course different stories. But the rest of the program was way way way more doable than your ADN program. If I were you I would start chipping away at classes asap-even one at a time so you can just start on it...also most schools hold you to the requirements at the time you enroll, not the time you graduate...so if you wait longer to enroll, they may add more classes you have to take between now and then.

just wanted to give you encouragement that you can do it! it's not that bad! don't pysch yourself out.

good luck

I really appreciate your words of encouragement. Thank you for representing nurses. We need one another to give us that extra push to say, "You can do it". I am still deciding between Wyoming and Boise, but I know whatever one I chose I will success at. I will contact the school I have chosen to attend by Friday to get upcoming deadline dates, etc. Thank you again for all of your quick replies, suggestions, positive reviews and most of all encouragement. You are wonderful nurse!

How strange, I just got an email for this thread. I don't even remember asking about UOW in this thread. Anywhoo, I did graduate from UOW in May and the program is doable. Yes, they did cut the clinical portion out where you had to find a public health facility or home health care agency. That cuts out the stress in 1/2. That was my problem, it was very hard to find a preceptor. The good thing about the school is it's graded and you will not have problems in applying for an advanced practice degree. Some schools are pass or fails with no grade, but this school gives you a grade. I didn't walk, which I was dissapointed about. I couldn't secure regalia and I was not going to fly to Wyoming and not able to walk. The school is good too since they are part of Sigma Tau nursing honor society. I was invited to be a member and it looks really good on your record if you are applying a graduate program. The good thing about the program is it's affordable and you will have a degree at a university level.

Hello! I might have posted a comment directly to you. Congrats obtaining your BSN! I am impressed so many Univ of Wyoming graduates have expressed positive comments. With an abundant amount of schools to chose from, this school by far stands out on top. Thank you for replying. If you decide to continue on to graduate school, I know you will do well!

Hi beetlebum,

I am also in the UOW program, taking 1-2 classes a semester. It is great to hear from people that have graduated! I am taking the Cultural Diversity class this summer, and for some reason it's a struggle. Any tips to get thru it? I plan on 3630 Health Promotion and hopefully Statistics in the fall. 5 more Nursing classes to go.

That is exactly what I am doing, just take one class at at time. Slow and steady wins the race. We will get there.

Thank you!! Good Luck in searching for your BSN program. You will find one that suits you! Ask me any question if you want to know more about UOW :)

I just received an acceptance letter to the college! It is such a relief to read so many positive things about this program! I just e-mailed the school asking if I could take one class at a time. I guess that I should have came here first. I will e-mail the application for the RN-BSN program, my license, and submit the $30.00 fee in the morning.

I am so looking forward to getting started. I'm brushing up on my math. My wife is very competent w/ algebra. Therefore, I'm not worried. I want to get one class done so that I can better gauge how to blend being a full time worker in a stressful SICU, a husband, and father of three. I have taken some on-line classes. However, my children were younger then. They require a lot more stimulation now. I don't want to neglect my children or my wife.

I'm proud of myself and I'm proud of you all. Let's keep up the strong work!
