University of Wisconsin Nurse Residency Program Summer 2015

Published

I thought I'd start a thread about the summer 2015 University of Wisconsin Nurse Residency Program...I saw that some other applicants had posted on the earlier group's thread, but I thought we could use our own! I love my privacy, so I hemmed and hawed about starting this dialogue, but I realized that I kept checking for someone else to do it, which was silly!

I submitted my application in Mid-November, and was contacted to arrange a phone interview the week after Thanksgiving. It took a couple of days to get that arranged, with 12-hour clinicals going on. When we finally spoke, I was scheduled for that same afternoon! (So, be prepared for this possibility! I was glad to get it over with, personally). Four business days later I received an email asking me to submit references, and now.....I WAIT. Ahhhhhhrggg!

I really want company on this journey-- so let's talk! I always feel it's hard to put yourself out there online when there's a possibility that you'll NOT be accepted/hired, but I think we can make this thread a supportive environment for everyone :)

Also anyone interviewing Monday the 12th? If so what time are you guys interviewing at?

I was told to be there Monday at 10:30. Nervous but really excited!

how did everyones interviews go?

I felt that it went well, but of course there is some fierce competition. Much like in my nursing program, a lot of very smart people who have a lot to offer. What really impressed me about the experience was how much dedication and enthusiasm those who interviewed me obviously had for their jobs. They seemed very passionate about their unit and dedicated to integrating new ideas and the latest research in their practice....Which is what I hoped I would find in a hospital with such a great reputation! So, if I am not offered a job I still feel that it was a very positive experience.

I know there are still some interviews coming up, and of course I don't know if all units ask the same kinds of questions. I would definitely recommend, if you haven't already, sitting down and making notes on some of your most memorable patients and experiences for inspiration, then doing a little practicing. I think it's difficult for many of us to talk about things we've done well, because we're constantly encouraged to downplay our strengths in other areas of our lives....But this is the time to let them shine!

Good luck to all, and just remember that we all have a place somewhere, and we'll find it in our own time. (This is what I tell myself anyway! ) :cat:

I interviewed for the NICU about a month ago now. This waiting g is killing me. Only 1 more month!

Has anyone heard anything yet??

Apparently we won't know for another two weeks or so. The UWHC is still waiting for the nurse resident positions to be funded, so they can't offer anything until then. (Someone I know called and asked.)

BSN_515, did you apply for the NICU at AFCH? If so, this may not apply to you. I did hear that someone at UW-Mad SON did hear back from that NICU, so you may want to call and ask.

Hi ceek, yes I did NICU at AFCH!

Did hear if the student from UW received a job offer for NICU?

I believe they did. They're quite a few that applied though, and I don't know if they've all been notified. Best of luck to you :)

Well lucky them! It is unlikely that I got the position if they are already notifying other applicants but I will try to keep my head up!

Good luck to you too!

Has anyone heard about General Peds? How many applied?
