University of West Florida (UWF) FNP Spring 2025

Published

Hello Anyone! I am currently awaiting acceptance into the UWF FNP Spring 2025 Cohort. Is there anyone else a sitting duck with me? I am beyond nervous but also excited to get this journey started. A little about me: I live in the Pensacola area and currently work as a full-time M-F Clinical RN. I spent my first years as an RN working PCU and Covid Pts. I dabbled a bit of time as a Circulator in the OR and now work in Oncology. Good Luck to anyone else waiting with me.

Hi everyone waiting to hear back from admissions. I've been a nurse in the ER for 10 years and PACU for last 2 years (retired ER nurse LOL)  Finishing up my bachelors in Dec. Only one class left =).   Good luck to you all.

Welcome to the waiting game and good luck to you. December cant come soon enough!

Just got my email. I didn't get in for early admission but fingers crossed I get in with regular admission. Good luck everyone!

It's a bummer but my advisor did tell me they only accept about 20 students during early admission out of the 150ish they accept per term so that makes me feel a little better.

I didn't get early acceptance either. I am wondering if still being enrolled in BSN has something to do with it. Graduation in December cant come soon enough. BUT Hey we have waited thus far so just about 5 more weeks to go. Congratulations to anyone that got that early YES!

From coworkers that are currently in the program it seems like they prioritize work experience for admission.  From what I've been told by coworkers most of their cohort in the program have over 7+ years of experience.  I can see how moving to this kind of admission criteria makes sense.  Lots of NP programs, especially online programs, are getting a lot of criticism for being degree mills.  The NP profession was created for experienced nurses with 10 plus years of experience.  5 years is just not enough time to know what you need to know before moving on to a higher degree and responsibility.  NP programs assume that you already have vast knowledge of the medical field already and they just build upon that.  This is not to dissuade applicants but maybe to provide some peice of mind.

My advisor initially told me that they typically don't accept anyone with stipulations (incomplete bsn degrees) during the early acceptance process. So I wasn't too let down today 🙃

Yeah me neither it would have been nice. I'm a it is what it is kind of girl. Go with the flow.

I'm glad that this is a thread. I also was not accepted for the early admission. I am a newer OB nurse and have 1.5 yrs experience . I was a little discouraged/worried when not accepted for early admission but I guess a lot of us are in the same boat. Does anyone know how competitive this program is?

Hey Makayla! When I spoke with my recruiter/advisor, he didn't seem to think the program was too competitive. He said they hadn't had a wait list in the last few semesters. Do not be discouraged by the experience. I have a friend who just finished RN school and was accepted into an NP Program with zero experience. Some markets are highly competitive, but I don't feel like UWF is.

Accepted as a new grad.  This is why NPs are getting such a bad rap in medicine

That's just downright dangerous.  Then new grads blame the schools for not preparing them.  You should be a minimum requirement for experience just even apply.  Most specialty certifications require so many hours before you even sit for the exam.

The lack of clinical hours that are required as NPs is much lower than PAs and much lower than MDs.  Why because we are supposed to have years of bedside experience to offset that.  Please consider getting more real workd experience. It will be beneficial fir your patients and your future license.
