University of Washington's BSN program 2014

Published

Good morning!

So I'm going to try this whole process over again, as a repeat offender...I mean applicant for UW's BSN program 2014. I applied last year, made it through the proctored essay portion but was not accepted. After nursing (haha) my wounds w/ large amounts of ice cream, chocolate & such, I've recently found my mojo to try again. Anyone else re-applying or 1st time applying for 2014? I know it's extremely early in the game, but those deadlines come up faster than you think! I've saved all the tips applicants that have applied more than once and hope that 2nd time is the charm.

Anyone else out there getting ready for it? We got this :D

I received one today too but I was declined from the nursing program, so I think it's just a generic response to everyone who has applied to UW

So sorry ? that adds insult to injury!

I think it happened the same time last year, I had set up my account from last year, so I just reset my password. ? really hope I get to actually use it this year!

UW BSN (2012-2014) student here,

Acceptance letters are SKINNY! There are just 2 pieces of paper in the envelope. Don't be afraid if your envelope is thin, you have to open it to get your prize!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks abalone!! Good to know! :)

Haha, that is nice to know. I will have to change my standing orders to my husband. In my absence, he is NOT allowed to open a big envelope but if a small one comes, I asked him to open it. Weird, I know, but I would rather have the pleasure of opening the good news and just get the bad over with. Guess there will be no opening of any school-related envelopes except by me!

Hello friends! Just reading through your post and wanted to wish you all luck!! I'm pleased to see that a couple of you (Just keep swimming, hopefulBE) found my advice useful :) :) I'm very methodical and while I know some people who approached the essay differently and did great, I felt so much better when I actually had a method!

I'll be crossing my fingers for you all. Being in UW this year I'm SURE that you are all more than qualified to be in this program, it's a shame more people can't be accepted. If it doesn't happen for you, don't despair.. there's something out there for you and you WILL BE A NURSE no matter what!

Abalone, you must be fixin' to graduate huh?!?! How is it going? Hope all is well. Hope to be in your shoes some day

Young idealist! I loved your advice & I am also one that likes to have a plan. Thank you again for helping us! How has your first year gone so far?

Abalone, congrats on soon to be graduating, that must be so exciting!!

No problem! Sending good vibes your way. Sometimes this whole process seems to be hit or miss, people that I thought were very qualified didn't get in, and people with perhaps not as many qualifications did get in. There's always a particular "thing" that they are looking for in your application, and that "thing" is a complete mystery for us and we cannot predict what will happen.

Anyway, as far as me, I'm liking the program so far. I'm probably a very atypical student, I don't study hours upon hours and my life hasn't changed that much. I just enjoy the time I spend studying, usually during the week, between classes, and try to absorb most of it during that time so I can go out on weekends :) I have something to say about each class, but it's probably better to discuss those things once you're in, if you'd like to chat :)

Clinicals are probably what I was most nervous about. I was a wreck every night before clinicals last quarter, mostly because of the hospital I was in and because I felt like I knew NOTHING (probably because I didn't! Unlike others, I wasn't even a CNA, so even touching the patient made my heart race, lol). They really throw you in there, it's like learning to swim by having someone push you into a deep pool. But this quarter I'm at Children's and I have enjoyed every second of it.

Let me know if I can help you in any way, I've been a stranger around allnurses for a while, hopefully I can stick around for a little longer this time!

That must have been scary for you, youngidealist! Even though im a cna, I still get nevous when I talk to patients and thier family.

I am just 3 months away from graduating!! It's very exciting. We have all gotten out Senior practicum placements and, now that this quarter is almost over, people are gearing up for 1 more. I can say that the 1st year is rough but the 2nd one is pretty good!

I hope you guys get the news you are waiting for! I'm on the forum to help, so drop me a line, especially after you have your acceptance!

Yes it was! I still get nervous occasionally but that first quarter was rough :-o I think it was a combination of factors, including my lack of experience and the environment I was in. Your CNA experience will help, I'm sure :)
