University of Washington (UW) DNP Fall 2018

Published

Hi all, I couldn't find a thread for those applying to UW for fall 2018 so I thought I'd start one. Anyone else applying? What track? I'm doing psych. Anyone know how many people might be applying this year?

Oh and any tips from those who went to the info sessions? I'm not local so I wasn't able to make it out.

Ohh, is the early admission DNP specifically for midwifery or does it apply to all tracks?

I'm finishing up my master's entry program and applying to the DNP-FNP. Does anyone know how the program and school really is? I'm curious because I'm at one of the top ranked schools now for my MSN and it has not lived up to our expectations. I've heard that UW has a great program but obviously have my reservations because being ranked highly and having a good name doesn't necessarily transfer into quality education and happy students ...

Hello there! I know UW's FNP program is ranked one of the highest in the country, but not so much their other tracks. UW spends a lot of money on the FNP program so the program is pretty solid compared to the other tracks. I will be applying to the acute care track as I'm unable to apply to other schools out of state. Let me know if you have questions regarding the info sessions. I went to the first one and their speed rounds session and will be going to the essay info session next week. Good luck to all of you guys!

Ohh didn't know that. Hopefully it's not too huge of a difference because I know the tracks all share a lot of the same foundations.

And thanks for the offer! It'd be great if you could talk about the essay one after you attend. I listened to last year's recording and it was really helpful. But I know this year's questions are slightly changed.

What was the most helpful thing(s) you've learned so far from the sessions?

Are you applying to other WA schools?

Hey, did you end up going to the essay session? How was it? Any outstanding tips they had?

Hello! Sorry for the delayed response. Had some family issues going on so I haven't logged in lately. I did end up going to the info session. To be honest, they didn't really tell us anything specific regarding the essay questions. They said to really answer all the questions and not go off topic and stay within two pages if possible. For the first question, they want to see if we know the difference between DNP vs Masters. So really talk about what the DNP degree is and why UW. And the second question they said to give specific examples/experiences on how those influence our track selection. Also, don't repeat why you choose DNP. They want us to solely talk about the track we are interested in. As for the third question. They don't want too many citations/references. Most applicants get points taken off for listing 4 or more references. They seriously repeated "answer the questions" multiple times. Hope that was somewhat helpful? I think the questions are pretty straight forward. Good luck!

No worries, thanks for the reply! And that was really helpful, clears it up a bunch. Seems similar to the recording from last year but good to see the key points, I took way too many notes.

Finished my app today! Such a relief

Good luck! I'm just finishing up the essays and then I'm done, just wanna get it over with.

I have a couple urgent questions about the UW application for anyone that can help answer. It says the deadline for international applicants is Jan. 15 but I know it's Jan. 16 for everyone. I don't know if that's just not updated, but I can't check cause it's a holiday. I don't want to take the risk so I'll submit it as I'm mostly done. I just had a few questions if someone could shed some light on them:

-When the resume asks for clinical hours, it's not referring to my clinical hours as a student, correct? Just my employment in clinical settings.

-On the supplemental form, what does the certifications section mean? What kind of certificates is it looking for? I have professional licensure and put in my details. What certificates did other people put in?

Thanks so much for any help.

Hello!

I just submitted my DNP application for fall - I applied for the community nursing track. Does anyone know how many people (on average) apply? How many are accepted annually?

Best of luck to all of you!

Good luck! And I'm not sure if they put out exact numbers but I was told FNP/Acute gets a ton and it goes down with the other tracks. I think community would fall under those tracks. But it would mean less seats too I guess.
