Glad you started the thread!! I'm applying for the DNP- Perinatal Nurse Specialist route. I heard that it is a full-time program so it is not advisable to also be working full-time as a RN. With their new revised DNP curriculum, students will not have the option of going part-time. Regardless of chosen specialty, we will all be in the same classes for the first year.
I'm anxious for March already too. If I get in, I'll be moving to Seattle from Hawaii!!
How was the application process for you? There were a lot of components to it!!
Hey Telee,
I was going to PM you, but apparently the site only allows PMing after "15 quality topic" posts. I am currently living in North Carolina, but Washington State is where I am originally from.
The application process took me awhile, I thought the hardest part was narrowing the essays down to 500 words! There was a lot I wanted to say!
Do you know how the UW informs us of acceptance/rejection? Is it a letter in the mail/email, or is it posted online?
Hello,
The application process took me awhile too!! They were so specific about every component of the application.
I believe the UW informs you by both email and snail mail. You might hear from email first then officially by snail mail where you accept or deny admission. The status of acceptance/rejection is also posted online on your MyUW grad application. This is my first time applying so I'm just assuming that's the process.
Are you applying elsewhere other than UW? I haven't seen many threads/posts about people applying to UW's DNP anywhere on this site. I'm hoping their acceptance rate is better for graduates than undergrad. I heard how hard it was to get accepted to either their traditional or ABSN program.
If we both get accepted, you'll have to show me around Washington state!!!
I am applying for UW DNP fall 2014 as well! I'm already anxious about admissions. I read somewhere that we don't find out until April, so when I read DukeRN87's post that we actually find out in March, I was thrilled. Has anyone heard what the acceptance rate for UW's DNP program is? I've searched the web a bit and haven't found anything. I'd like to know what my odds are! Good luck to all!
aloha heymabel!
Yay, another applicant for UW DNP fall 2014. What speciality did you choose? I went to an info session and the speaker said we usually find out at the end of March, but they have the April "buffer" just in case. I tried digging through the web about the acceptance rate too, but with no luck.
In the grad info session, she stated that applicants compete for the set number of spaces for each speciality. For example, if there are only 30 spots for FNP, the level of competition for those 30 spots depend on how many competitive applicants apply. Therefore, the acceptance rate would change every year based on available spots and the number of competitive applicants. Hope this helps. Good Luck!! Keep in touch and hopefully we all meet up at orientation in the fall!
Hey heymabel and telee!
I'm glad another DNP hopeful found this thread! Waiting is definitely the toughest part of this process. I was able to find acceptance rates listed by year to the DNP program broken down by specialty up until 2011. Here is the link for it.

If that doesn't work, try going to the school of nursing website and type in "acceptance rates" into the search bar on the website and the first response should bring you to it!
Can't wait to see you all in Seattle come Fall! Mabel are you from Washington State?

Hey -
I am a recent grad from Duke University ABSN and am applying to the University of Washington DNP - FNP program. I was just curious if there is anyone else out there that also applied to the Fall 2014 start DNP program at UW.
It would be nice to discuss the process together. :-)
