University of Texas or Univ of Phoenix?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to get my MSN and I have been looking for good programs. Which do you think is better, Univ of Texas or Univ of Phoenix?

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I'm sure UofT is MUCH cheaper than UofP.

I will respectfully disagree with those that say that UofP is not well-respected. I did both my ADN to BSN and MSN with UofP. For me, the lack of waiting list was the biggest factor. However, it IS very expensive. I graduated with my MSN in 2005 so can't speak to current costs.

However, I had no problem getting all my credits accepted at other schools to complete two post-MSN certificates. And....I've had absolutely no issues getting jobs.

But I wonder UTA is cheaper than UoP? I know both are online programs.

UoP is a for profit school and thus exists to earn a profit for shareholders (The Apollo Group). The University of Texas System are state schools that are non-profit and subsidized by taxpayers.

I think UoP and other online/for-profit institutions still carry a negative stigma. I agree with the other posters and would recommend UTA.

I would never go to a for profit school. I am sure trauma is a great provider but probably not secondarily to the schools education but his or her drive, motivation, and talent to become a good provider.

Texas all the way.

I went to a private non profit school, it was okay, sadly better than most since I know many people from different schools, but would have went to a state school to save 5k or so if I had any sense back in the day.

Your state schools are almost always the best bet for anything. Unless your parents are rich and sent you to MIT or something.

Better to stay a nurse than fork over money to a for profit.

Does anyone knows about the berlitz test?

Specializes in NICU, telemetry.

I did UTA for RN-BSN. Loved the program. I would definitely choose them over Phoenix.
