Hi,

I am interested in applying to USA'S Bsn-dnp program - Pmhnp. I live in Austin,TX & I wanted to know how your experience at this school has been. How have your clinical rotations been? Are you having a hard time finding a preceptor? Does your advisor or nursing faculty get back to you on time when you have questions? Do you have support from them etc?

Thanks so much for answering my questions.

Just a quick question for anyone in the USA PMHNP program. Do your clinical sites have to be "through the life cycle" or can any/all of them be done at a facility that only accepts adult patients?

You have to have inpatient and outpatient, pediatric through adult.

Jill -- Thanks for the info. I'll pass that along to my friend who is planning to apply for Fall.

This is the email that I received from the USA's school of nursing regarding the clinical rotations.

"At least one-half of your clinical hours must be spent with a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In combination with this, you can use a board certified psychiatrist. You must have a psychiatric in-patient and psychiatric out-patient clinical site for your clinical experience and at least one site that allows you to work with a preceptor who works with children under age 12. Our goal is for you to have spent at least 45 hours with children in this age group by the end of the program."

Hope this helps.

Did they actually help you with clinical placements?

Hi,

I had my first orientation on 8/19. We were told that there are a list of affiliated clinical sites that we could use. If you couldn't find any there are also forms to use if you find clinical sites for your preceptors. We were told by the Coordinator for the program that we were responsible for finding our own clinical sites.

I applied to the psych np program , anyone who is in the program , can u give all the 411 ? How is the program?how many weeks per class ? Are the exams via camera ?

Any info is greatly appreciated ! Thanks in advance !

Hi,

This is my first semester. So far, I am taking two courses. The exams are monitored via your webcam on your computer-there's a software that you have to pay for & download on your computer. It does not support mac so make sure you don't use that. The program follows the 15-16 weeks program like a usual semester. It is busy but doable that's all I have experienced so far.

I start my first semester in January '16 for the PMHNP-DNP Program. Although it's 11 semesters, I'm excited because I'll be done when it's over! I'll try to keep up with this thread although you never know with working full time and taking two classes! Communication with the school thus far has been clear which is always helpful. I have always receive prompt email replies and have not had to call anyone for further clarification of anything. With everything else, you have to do the research yourself to determine if it is for you or not. The website has so much information, I was impressed and compelled to apply.

Good luck to you. I should be rounding up my first semester God willing by tomorrow. Have my last exam in pathophysiology tomorrow. I am doing the 12 semester option so I still have a long way to go. Am taking two courses at a time. We'll see how it goes.
