University of South Alabama accelerated BSN Spring 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone! Just checking if anyone has applied for the second degree BSN program at University of South Alabama for Spring 2018? If so, have you received a letter yet?

Also, if anyone has previously attended this program, what should students expect?

Thanks!

I got the phone interview last Monday! Can't wait to start!

I just had my phone interview on Friday and I was accepted! For anyone interested the interview was super laid back! All she asked was what I had been up to since I had graduated and why I wanted to pursue nursing. I can't wait to start in January!

My interview was yesterday and I was accepted also. I am so excited to start in January!!

I got my official letter and info packet in the mail today!

I have also been accepted into the accelerated nursing program set to begin January of 2018. I can't wait to meet everyone on January 2nd! I currently live in Georgia so will be moving to the area to attend the program.

I have tried multiple times to contact someone with questions about the acceptance package and have not recieved any answers. So I will see if any of you know.

With Castle Branch you have to select your classification and the only options are Fall 2018, Spring 2017, and Summer 2017. We are technically Spring 2018 and this is not an option. I don't want to go forward with it before verifying what to select. So if any of you know the answer that would be great.

Did you put in a code for CastleBranch?

Yes I did. I sent an email Monday after calling and leaving multiple voicemails last week with no return. I received an email back Wednesday stating Spring 2018 was open. I logged on & suddenly it was there. I checked MULTIPLE times Monday & Tuesday and then suddenly it was there Wednesday. Not sure what the problem was.

Hey everybody! I created a facebook group for everyone so please feel free to join!

I am actually about to start the Accelerated nursing fall 2018, and I was wondering, how many times a week do you have clinicals and lecture? And when do the clinicals start? And where are the clinicals held? I'm looking for a place to stay and don't know if I should stay in mobile or Spanish fort. Someone please help!

It really varies every week/semester! For the first three months we spent every day in class in fairhope! For the next two months after that we'd spend one day taking classes in fairhope and then based on your location they'd assign you to a hospital in mobile or in fairhope. Some people who lived in fairhope got assigned to hospitals in mobile so I'm not sure how much location mattered to them for our Adult 1 or psych clinicals. For OB/PEDS we all have to be at children's and women's hospital which is in mobile. And for Adult 2 we also all have to be in mobile. We still have to be in class in fairhope at least once or twice a week though. I live in mobile and don't have problem making the 30 minute drive to fairhope for class and all my clinicals have been in mobile so far. Basically until practicum which is the last two months of this program you need to be in fairhope a lot in the beginning and then in mobile a lot after that. If you chose mobile though I would make sure you're somewhere that has fast interstate access! Also lots of people car pool to mobile from fairhope and also Car pool from mobile to fairhope so that's a plus. Sorry if this doesn't help it essentially I'm saying either way you'll probably be driving back and forth a lot. Sometimes I spend the night at a classmates in fairhope before early exams but other than that it's not too bad! Congrats on getting accepted! It's a whirlwind for sure but so far worth it!

Forgot to say this sorry but clinicals are 3 days a week - you go on Wednesday to pick up a patient and then go to the hospital for Thursday and Friday! So we have class in fairhope right now Tuesday and a Wednesday morning and then Wednesday afternoon have to go back to mobile, pick up a patient and then go to the hospital in mobile on Thursday and Friday. Before this we only had Class on Tuesday in fairhope and Wednesday we didn't have class but they changed it for OB/PEDS.

Can anyone comment on USA's Accelerated BSN program? Anything will help please as I'm trying to make a decision by this week:

What is their drop out rate?

What is the teaching method used by instructors?

What should students expect from this program?

They also require that students purchase a netbook and software package, which come with a price tag of $1,700. Is it worth it?
