University of Rochester Accelerated Nursing Program - ABPNN

Published

I just got accepted into U of R's accelerated bachelors nursing program. Just wanted to start a thread to see who else is going there!

So, hadm y 2nd interview for the Accelerated Masters program yesterday and this morning got a call from ******* offering me admission! Excited cause this is my 1st offer but they want to know my decision by 2/07 - weeks before I will hear back from other schools (really waiting on Yale and UCSF)....yikes! Considering saying yes and paying the $400 deposit to hold my spot since that's the only way to maintain the offer but still hear back from other schools. Has anyone else run into this problem?

tayna- when were you planning on starting? in september?

Hello - I've recently been accepted as well. I was wondering whether there were any other guys who've been accepted into the 2011 Program?

Has anyone heard back for AMPNN?

Hi Everyone!

I am applying for the Sept 2011 program. I am just wondering, does anyone know approximately how many applications they receive per semester and how many people get accepted? Is the accelerated nursing program a popular major at UR?

xoxjedixox -

For the Accelerated bachelors program they had over 300 applicants for the May 2011 start date. They have 56 spots available for each semester. Since this is a second degree program, it is not a degree that the undergrads at UR can declare.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks rin2483 for the information, it definitely helped. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks! I can't wait to be done so I can start working :) The tuition cost is something I really struggled with, it's so much money! But you do get what you pay for, it's a great program and has a wonderful reputation all over the US. Personally I am glad that I made the decision to go to the U of R, even though I'll be paying loans back until I'm 60 :)

I don't know anything about SBU, but the NY school system is great as well. If you'd like to talk more about this, feel free to email me, [email protected], I can give you more info. I don't log on here often and might not see a response from you for awhile!

Hi Kris10ham

You mentioned that you're currently living in Rochester and attending the Nursing Program. Where are the best places to look for housing? I found this site:

www.wix.com/twojoes/rochesters-home-for-students

It says something about being in the "White Coat Ghetto" area? Is this a good place to look. I plan on visiting soon and want to view as many places b4 signing! :)

Hey everyone,

I just found out I was accepted for May 2011! I thought I would hop on here and see who is going to be part of my life for the next year haha. Congrats to everyone who was accepted, and to those finishing up! Good luck to those who have not heard back yet. I currently live in Rochester close to the school, so luckily I don't have the stress of finding a place! If I can help anyone out let me know! :uhoh3:

The upper White Coat Ghetto is the ideal location, walk to school, safe area, friendly and lots of other students. There are rental opportunities, but often you have to rent the entire house and have to find house mates. The house you refer to is in a good location but the rooms are relatively small. With a desk in the bedroom there is not much room to move around. I have seen one other site from the same area:

www.studenthousingrochester.com

with more houses in the same good location. Many nursing student living in upper White Coat Ghetto do so without bring a car. If you get a furnished room (there are a few available) you really just have to bring yourself and your computer.

I'm looking to get into the UR program as well, but I currently have a friend who does go to UR and I have visited her frequently. She lives in an apartment right off of Park Avenue. It's a great little area, with many residential streets full of students. Park Avenue is gorgeous and there are a lot of cool stores and bars right within walking distance. (Sugar mountain bakery makes the best cupcakes!) I will probably be living in this area if I get accepted to the Sept 2011 class. Hope that helps a little for anyone with housing issues!

Have you found housing or roommates yet? Are you from Rochester? Seem to know a lot about the area....could pick your brain if so. ;)

Not sure that not bringing a car is a great idea in Rochester. Rochester is not a great city for public transportation, but it is a great city with many things to see and do. You will not find much in walking distance from U of R. A few restaurants, but not really any stores. Also, some clinicals are at Highland Hospital which is about 2 miles away - walkable, but not pleasant in the winter. I live close to there in the Highland Park neighborhood, a beautiful neighborhood where it might be nicer to rent. There or the South Wedge are very close to U of R, you'd probably get a nicer property, better price, and there is definitely more to see and do in this area.. The white coat ghetto is just students living in rental properties (ie, not much of a neighborhood feel nor look). Not much there but the hospital. Granted, if you are young and just out of undergrad, this may work perfectly for you. However, if people are looking for more of a neighborhood and better living situation, I'd explore outside of the white coat ghetto. Feel free to reply if you're looking for more info on the area - I start in May 2011!!!
