University of Pittsburgh CRNA Program

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I was wondering if anyone has heard from Pitt. I interviewed back in December and was told that we would either get a letter or a call about our status. I know they have more interviews set up in March for the CRNA program. Haven't really seen anything posted on the message boards either way.

Actually all 3 were rejected! They are, like you, great candidates (GPA, GRE score, experience, etc.) so we have no idea how they are making their selections. I have heard several theories but of course it's all speculation. I am quite disappointed because I will be applying this year.

I believe everyone who is invited for an interview is capable of completing the program and passing the boards. Maybe they choose based on interpersonal skills, personality, and ability to represent Pitt well out in the community as a SRNA and CRNA.

You can have the resume of a god, and a personality of a doorknob. I'll choose to person with less of a resume who has a personality, is likeable, and is equally capable of doing well in school. A great resume just takes time to build. Someone amazing with one year of experience could have that resume in 10 years, but has chosen to move ahead sooner than that.

If my application is next to yours, the admission committe will destroyed and burned it immediatelly. You defenitelly have excellent credentials. Hopefully, you get in.

I agree with you.

firemedic, did you hear from them yet? also are you from the burgh and are you applying anywhere else? I have heard (hearsay) that they frown upon paramedics. There is also word that because of our governors proposed budget cuts on education (cutting education spending now thats a bright idea but another topic all-together!) that Pitt is taking more out-of-state applicants to boost tuition revenue. Like I said before, just speculation.

A co-worker of mine interviewed with U Pitt in March and he found out last Friday he was accepted into the program. I interviewed with the same time and I just found out I got in too.

Good luck to you.

I know attitude goes a long way in the interview process. When I interviewed with , there were 12 of us interviewing. Most of the applicants were pleasant but there was one girl who was interviewing who was very arrogant. She actually was going around asking people questions like she was quizzing their knowledge or trying to interview which ****** a lot of people off. She was so condescending. When we all finished our personal interviews, we found out her attitude must have been discovered by the admissions committee because they ripped her apart in the interview. We all had the same clinical scenarios but they were asking her what receptor sites medications worked on and none of the 11 students were asked those questions at all. At the end of her interview, she said they told her she needed to get more surgical ICU experience. When she told us what they said, we all just walked away from her because she defintely doesn't have a likeable personality. I'm just happy me and a new friend I met in the interview both got accepted to the program. You never know what type of personality they are looking for but I did notice Drexel was looking for people who are passionate about anesthesia and not arrogant or cocky. They will discover who you are based on the typical questions they ask like, "why did you want to be a CRNA" and other questions of the sort. They are really good at sniffing out people that are arrogant and cocky and people who feel they have a self-entitlement to the profession. If you are humble and confident, you will do well.

Air Force RN,

Can you let your co-worker know about this for me? I created a facebook group for Pitt's Class of Dec 2013. I'm trying to locate people in the class so we can get to know each other a little before school starts.

If he/she is interested in joining the group, have them email me at [email protected]

Congrats on your admission to !!

IF anyone out there got into Pitt for the class starting in August, feel free to email me. I've found several people already and we're all excited about getting to know everyone!!

Congratulations. Job well done. Personality is very important and this girl destroyed her chances on her own. I cannot believe that she had the courage to be quizzing people.

Air Force RN, are you sure she was interviewing? Maybe she was a confederate and was pretending to be a candidate for the program. Perhaps the admission committe wanted to see how you guys will react to this type of psychological nonsense.

If in fact, she was interviewing, she has no future at U. I feel bad for her.

As I always say to myself, "We are the captain of our own destiny."

Once again, congratulations.
