I would like to use this thread for all of us attending or having attended UofP.

I am going to begin classes in August of this year in the MSN/ED program.

I would love to hear from different people who are in different stages of the program and what they have liked and hated.

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH THE PROGRAM AND ONLY WANT TO SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT THE SCHOOL.

I hope other U of P alumni will get involved and help us with any sticky situations that arise and offer their wisdom.

Slam65, I used PERRLA for both my BSN and MSN, would have been lost without it. Nice thing it also gives free upgrades as for example part way through my MSN APA went from the 5th to 6th ed.

Dlynn0366, where did you get the PERRLA software from. Download or do the stores have it?

Hi Slam65, this is the PERRLA website http://www.perrla.com/ cost is $29.95.

You have a password/user name after you purchase so you can download also to more than one computer.

I initially purchased the actual software from APA and hated it, I tried out another online one I downloaded (I think it was Style Ease) but for sure PERRLA for me worked the best. It was well worth the money for sure!!

Anybody starting HCS504-Intro to health sciences graduate study along with me tomorrow, Aug 17 at UOP?

Hi Slam65, I can't even tell you what this class involves as because I did my BSN with UOP I didn't have to take this class. One thing though for every class you are expected to post a little bio about yourself. Write it up once and you can pretty well use it for every class. Most students along with their name put where they are from, what field of nursing they are in, family life etc., hobbies. Here is mine so you have some idea.

Hello, my name is XXX and I live just outside of Ottawa, Ont., Canada. I received my diploma nursing in 1978. In Ontario as of 2005 the College of Nurses of Ontario made degree programs mandatory and our 2 year college RN diploma course became a thing of the past. At this time our Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) programs went from a one year program to a two year program. I did try our Canadian online BSN program, absolutely hated it as in no way was it user friendly and from what I have heard this remains true today. I saw a commercial for UOP so decided to give UOP a try and loved it. After getting my BSN in 2006 I had planned on taking a couple of months off before pursuing my MSN but this turned into more like 2 years. This is my last class in the MSN program. I’m married, have no children but do have two cats if this counts. I work as a certified diabetes educator, clinic nurse, insulin pump trainer and clinical research coordinator.

dlynn0366-Thanks so much for info on the Bio. I am hoping all the work in the MSN/MHA classes doesn't turn out to be too much. I know it's going to be a lot of had work and a lot of writing. What type of job will you be pursuing with your MSN? I would like to get into management at my hospital someday.

I too thought I wanted to be a nurse manager - hence the MSN from UofP. Unfortunately, I hated it. Not saying you will, but I hated it: no clinical time, dealing with unhappy staff and unhappy higher-ups day after day - ugh.

I went back three months after finishing the MSN (yep, that's all the management I could stand - lol) and did an adult health CNS then I just finished a peds CNS.

As an APN, I am much more comfortable in the clinical role.

Hi Trauma: how long did the adult health CNS take you to complete? How long for the MSN? Thanks.

Hi everyone!! Ready to start UOP---MSN the end of Jan. However I'm not sure if its the right choice. So far everything seems good besides the group projects and a ton of papers. I was looking into Kaplans as well. I do know they dont have the group projects but I do not want that to be the only reason for my choice. Whats the cost difference---Pros/cons between the 2 anyone? Please chime in :-)
