University of Oklahoma-Accelerated BSN Program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and to the field of nursing. Has anyone gone to this school and if so, what did you think?

I live in San Diego, CA, and there is an online program that this school offers. I'm 3 prerequisites away from applying to the school, with a start date of August 08. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nicole

There are two orientations, the first one goes over financial aid, books, uniforms, immunizations and logistical stuff and the second is a chance for you to meet students, get familiar with the computer lab and skills lab. Have you been accepted already? I would talk with Kennessa or Phyllis regarding this issue because I am pretty sure they would be willing to fill you in on what is needed, before you go changing your flight info. Have they already let people know who's in for the Fall? Good luck!

No, they haven't let people in the fall program yet. We won't know their admission decisions until mid-July. Does the orientation (the second one) last all day? Thanks for the info wannabe07!

Hi HelloKitty,

I also applied for Fall term. Do you know if you got in yet? I'm beyond nervous to find out. I just finished my prereqs this spring semester and still have to send in my final grades...hope that doesn't lessen my chances of getting in. I'd be so bummed to wait another semester.

Yeah I don't know if I got in yet. I'm just one of those people that like to worry about things way in advance. I actually have one more prereq to finish-History. I'm taking this short term online class at City. I'll be done with it on July 2. I don't think finishing your prereqs during spring semester will lessen your chances. I know a few people that started June 2 and finished their prereqs during the spring semester (08), which ended on May 24. Plus I have a few friends that are hoping to start in the fall that have yet to finish prereqs. I wonder what the criteria for admissions is anyway-GPA? I don't know. I think someone told me also that as long as you have 90% of prereq classes done at the time of the application, it also enhances your chances, but I'm not sure if this is true. I am nervous about getting in too. At first, Phyllis made it seem like getting in was a sure thing. But now after reading this forum and knowing that its impacted-i don't know anymore! and I would also hate waiting another semester. Keep in touch.

What else do you do at orientation, besides getting familiar with lab and the student forum?

I thought it was a sure thing to get in too. But like you, after reading through these forums, I'm nervous there are too many applicants. I have pretty good grades, but I think all of us trying for this do. On their website the only GPA requirements is at least a 2.5 overall and at least a 2.5 in science. I am taking government over summer, it ends in July. My brain is so stressed I totally forgot about that. :) Mid July seems so far away! I'm making myself more scared reading through here about the course load and everything. But at least I can really prepare myself for it. I better enjoy this summer though if I do get in! My last few months of freedom lol! I will definately keep in touch and let you know of anything I hear.

We just signed papers and got our uniforms and schedule, it took a couple of hours.

I believe (not 100% sure) that they are changing it that you need to be done with all pre-reqs before they accept you, its been a big problem with getting transcripts in and taking holds off the accounts, etc...Phyllis told me that they changed it for next semester but I would call them if you had concerns about it. I can understand you being nervous but enjoy this free time, its a lot of work!! :D

Hey luckyred07 and Hellokitty45,

I've applied for Fall as well. I hope we all get in but since it seems like the word is getting out on the program, that it is more impacted than they made it out to be. Kenessa told me I shouldn't have a problem getting in and she is on the council. So hopefully, I can make it in this fall. Good luck to us all!

Hey everyone.... I applied for August also and I'm so nervous!! I found out that around 140 applied for 72-75 spots. Good luck to all of you! I hope we all get in!

Hi Everyone,

I applied for the August start date as well. I haven't been on this site for a while....it's great to know we are all in the same boat. I'm worried about the prerequisite situation....I am taking A&P I and A&P ll right now and will finish Aug. 9th. I guess I should start praying!!! Congrats wannabe07. Were you able to pick your schedule at Sharp? How did that work?

Nicole

Hey everyone! I was wondering about the US history prereq...my school offers two semesters of US history (5 units each). Will I need to take both classes to fulfill this? The class is titled, "US history before 1877" and the other class is called, "US history after 1877". Any information is good.

For those who applied, how long did it take them to inform you of your acceptance or rejection?

Hi kryztality,

I've taken both to satisfy the AA requirements but I think the admissions people said you could take either one. I am not completely sure though so hopefully someone can give better clarification.

Hi, sorry it took so long to respond, I haven't been on this site for longer than a minute for a while. We were assigned our groups and clinical days and locations. Some people were able to switch if they found a person to switch with. I am blessed with an awesome group and a great instructor so I'm happy. I am not sure if you stay in the same group the whole time, time will tell. :D
