University Of San Francisco VANAP BSN FALL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! This will be my 3rd attempt to apply in USFCA VANAP here in Sacramento! On my first try, I was still taking one of my major science classes, Ethics and Philosophy. The second one, I realized that my essays were horrible. I'm coming back with complete prerequisites and I hope my essays are better this time.

My GPA is not as competitive which is 3.2

However, I have a long experience in bedside care as I have been a CNA for more than 7 years and is now working at a University hospital taking care of Psych Patients for 3 years already.

I have no volunteer experience, but I am an active member of an organization that does medical missions in remote areas in the Philippines.

I'm looking forward to converse and share the anxiety (lol) with the rest of aspiring nursing students of this prestigious school!

Katrina, I agree with you that I didn’t use the right word to sum it up by saying “overqualified “ but you made it sound like I was lying or something. I am also fluent in 4 languages, so maybe that gave me the bump.

I will paste part of the email that explains it better. Hope this makes more sense

“”””””Thank you for your continued interest in the University of San Francisco. While we are not yet able to offer you a place at USF for fall 2020, I wanted to share with you another option that would guarantee you placement in our Hilltop nursing program for Spring 2021.

We believe that you are an excellent candidate for our Spring 2021 class. There are advantages for you, too. As you may know, students who start our nursing program in the fall semester attend USF for a minimum of seven semesters and start their clinical rotations in the Spring. Given your advanced qualifications, we have determined that you do not need that extra semester at USF. By starting in the Spring, you will attend USF for just six semesters and begin clinicals on arrival. You’ll graduate on the same timeline as if you started in the fall, and you’ll save time and money. “”””””

Yes, it is true. They are accepting application for fall 2020. However, when if they think you are good candidate they offer guaranteed spot for Spring 2021.

Does that mean that they potentially could have guaranteed spots to other students that applied for previous semesters to this upcoming fall 2020 sem? I’ve never heard of this. I know some people currently in the program and they said they don’t do this. Would you mind sharing exactly what they told you?

Did you originally apply for the program in sac or in sf?

Darn. I didn't get in again. I am so bummed out. I guess I'll just retake one of my major science classes to bump up my grade!

Congratulations to all who got in!! I feel your excitement! Godd luck with everything!

No, Fall semester is only for those who haven’t finished one of their core courses. Yes, I will paste the email they sent me. I know it’s confusing

Thank you so much! Just apply again for Spring 2021 because they have a bigger cohort.

You're welcome! I'm so excited for you!

Do you think I still have a chance to get in Spring 2021 even though they didn't offer me a spot?

I think what the person above is talking about is the maim SF campus because at sac campus they don’t offer this option but I know some people who were offered guarantee admission for Spring last year at main campus..... also Sacramento campus doesn’t have a larger Spring cohort than fall it’s always 20 people. But main campus does ..

I think the letter they sent me is saying that I should stop applying because I will never be up for their standards. I don't understand because C.W. told me that my grades are good to go, I have about 8 yrs of bedside experience, It's just that I needed to fix my essays and believe me my essays were so strong. I even had help with my writing professor to correct my grammar. Here's what it says on my letter...

Dear *****,

Thank you for applying to the University of San Francisco. After careful review of your application and supporting materials, our Admission Committee is unable to offer you admission to the university. This is always a difficult decision as the number of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of spaces in this year's class.

Your accomplishments and talents will take you to great places, wherever you choose to go from here. I know you will find your own opportunity to make a positive impact on the world.

We deeply appreciate your interest in the University of San Francisco, and we wish you all the best as you pursue your academic goals.

Sincerely,

Well I'm sorry but yeah, when you said that you were told you were overqualified it did make me question it as that's definitely not normally something they would say. It looks as though you applied to the San Francisco campus rather than the Sacramento campus which is probably why they're accepting for 2021. (We're all applying to Sacramento and it's a bit different here)

They say in your email that there is another option so that you can be guaranteed? It sounded as though you weren't guaranteed until you had to do this option? I'm just curious how the San Francisco campus works because I do have the option to apply to both campuses as well, but am unsure if I want to commute that far.

Aww Corgi, I'm sorry. I definitely would not take that notice as them telling you not to apply anymore. It seems like a standard form letter and that is the exact same letter I received as well.

Yes, I am talking about San Francisco campus. I had to fill out the form first to show that I am interested so they can send me official admission letter with financial aid package. I have to make decision by June 1st. I posted this just to give some info that they do this sometimes, not to lie or brag about it.

I didn’t comment here before but was following the discussion.

My Stats:

3:67 overall

3.8 core classes

fluent in 4 language

CNA for 7 months

Volunteered 103 hours

Dean’s List for 4 semesters

My essay was pretty strong but I submitted the draft one accidentally where it had grammar mistakes. I noticed it after submitting. So I thought I didn’t have chance of getting in.

Congratulation! I received the same email as well. I was trying to fill out the form but the link didn't work. Did you already fill that form out?

Will you let me know if the link that they provided for the form works for you. Thank you ?
