University of North Georgia - Fall 2017 Cohort

Published

Good morning all!

I searched to see if anyone had already started a topic on applicants for the UNG Fall 2017 cohort since applications just opened at the beginning of the month, but didn't find one. Please feel free to move this if I missed it!

With that being said, how many of you have applied for the program already? I just wanted to have a place where we could all chat and share our anxieties while waiting on acceptance (hopefully!) letters!

I'm Heather. I just transferred to UNG so my first semester will be this coming Fall. I have about 6 more classes to take before the program starts and am currently studying to take the HESI next month. I have 2 children, 12 year old boy and 2 year old girl, and work in the service industry. Tell me about yourselves!

Also, for what it's worth, when I was at orientation the nursing advisors said averages for those accepted last semester were 3.6 GPA and 87% on the HESI. Obviously, those numbers vary greatly depending on the applicant pool, but it does help give some idea about what we should expect.

Good luck, everyone!

I just graduated from UNGs nursing program two months ago. It is a great program but is very competitive due to a lot of people applying. Try to make all A's in your science classes and do well on the entrance exam. The program is very hard but you can do it!

Hey there! Congrats on graduating! Currently, I have a 3.93 GPA. The only B I've gotten was in Chem 1 lecture but A's in chem 2 lecture/lab. I'm taking the rest of my sciences the next 2 semesters so hopefully I can ace those, as well!

Bump! Registered to take my HESI in 16 days! Has anyone taken it yet? Tips? Areas to focus on?

Hi you guys! I'm super late but I'm applying to UNG's Gainesville campus nursing school for the Fall 2017 cohort. I've only taken the TEAS so far in order to apply to KSU and Emory's nursing programs, but I am planning on taking the HESI next week Wednesday. I got a 92 individual score on the TEAS, so I am hoping to do well on the HESI as well (if you guys have any tips let me know!). I can't currently pull up the required courses courses for the nursing program so I don't know what my pre-req GPA is, but my cumulative GPA is a 3.86 at the university I currently attend (B+ in Gen Chem 2 lab and a B in Genetics :p). I cannot wait to be done with all of these application processes :)!

The application process at UNG is much simpler. Have you already been accepted to UNG? They look at overall GPA, GPA for your sciences and withdrawals from science courses, as well as HESI scores. My advisor told me the average accepted applicant has a 3.6 with an 87 on the HESI. So your GPA looks pretty good!

As far as HESI, I took it about a month ago and scored a 94 composite. A couple tips: Know your math. UNG doesn't allow calculators, at all. Know your fractions! Add/Sub/Div/Mult., conversion to percent, decimal, etc. The elsevier study guide has all the relevant math sections, know those. That book is a great study tool for reading comp, math, and vocab, but you might need some outside sources for A&P. I used the HESI A2 mastery app a lot.

Let me know if you want more detail on that

Thanks for that information! I have actually just sent over all of my information to UNG to apply to the school as a transfer student as I'm graduating with my B.S. in Psychology in the spring from UGA, so hopefully it doesn't take them a long time to review my information (I just decided on applying to this school last week, so I'm super late to everything unfortunately). But I'm really happy they look at the overall GPA because my overall is a 3.9 (UGA has a +/- system so A-'s bring my GPA down lol). Also, I'm really good at math and I have been studying the elsevier study guide book. I'm going to take the online practice test to see how I do this weekend just to see if I need to brush up on anything else. But, from what I'm seeing in the study guide, the HESI seems MUCH easier than the TEAS.

Yea, it wasn't too bad. The only area I scored below the 90s was AP because I haven't taken it yet, but I got an 88 in that area.

Hey guys, I'll be applying for both Dahlonega and Gainesville in the Fall! Stats: GPA- 3.5, HESI- 90.5. Any idea if our Fall 2016 grades will be considered in our applications?

Yes, this semester's grades count, but this is the last one for the Fall 2017 cohort.

Oh nice, thanks!

My advisor told me we should be getting acceptance letters by Spring Break. It looks like they got then as early as mid February last year. Hoping that's the case this year, too. I'm so anxious to know!

Anyone else from Dahlonega apply to the program? Would be cool to get to know some potential future classmates!
