University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

Hi again Wannabeanurse,

Didn't you say you took a CNA class? I thought about taking it in May at WCC, it is a 4 week class. I have experience being a caregiver through a Home healthcare agency, so I just figured it would give more experience before actualy doing a clinical in nursing school.

Are you going to apply to EMU? Have you taken the TEAS exam yet? I guess we have to get into the 50th percentile rank in order to apply which is about an 80% overall the woman said at EMU.

Hey,

Go ahead and start on your goal statement. I received my nursing plan of study yesterday and I was able to fill out the app on the spot and print out my goal statement and take it to the post office. I'm glad I had it ready to go! :) The nursing plan of study has all the prereqs filled out with your grades etc. It's pretty straight forward. You then just transfer that info onto the application, it takes like 5 minutes, sign the app and you're ready to go! Yeah I hear I have a better of chance of getting in there than other schools! I'm on the wait list for U of M. But at this point, I just want to start somewhere!!!

Yep I got my CNA at WCC last summer. I took the 5 week course in the evenings so that I could take classes during the day. I'm enrolled in the Phlebotomy course right now and I absolutely love it! :) I'm taking the TEAS test March 6th. I plan to study for it over spring break (next week!). Are you at WCC right now?

Well, I have taken pre-requisites at all of the community colleges. Right now I am taking pathophysiology on line at WCC and I am doing my microbiology lab at LCC. I have to register for the TEAS soon actually. I already have the study materials. I figured I would do it on spring break as well. I got my BA from Oakland university and since then I have just done my pre-requisites at the community colleges. I did do A & P at EMU and the required nutritional class at EMU.

I have taken everything at WCC except I took Pharm and Dev. Psych at U of M. Looks like we are similar paths, maybe we'll be in nursing school together! Good luck on everything, I definitely need it :p

I definatly need the luck too!!! I just need to take gen chem. I may even take Anatomy over, that was my lowest grade, the rest of my pre-requisites were good, no reason to take them over. I just hope other schools like OU will take my anatomy and physiology from EMU. Wasn't philosophy a class that we need to have done for Ou's nusing program? I thought it was under category c on all of that paperwork that the advisor sent me.

I do have a question about Oakland U....would I have to retake Patho, Pharm, and Nutrition through Oakland? There really wasn't a spot on the app for those prereqs. I didn't want to push it, I figured I'd bring it up if I got in. Don't want to give them any reason to dislike me :p Yes you need Philosophy!!! I took a medical ethics class, figured it would look better than regular philosophy, for their program and to others!

oh cool, where did you take medical ethics class at? I want to get that over with this summer. I doubt you will need to re-take any of those class, just as long as they transfer to OU. I looked on the transfer equivalency charts to see if my classes would transfer and I believe the patho from WCC will transfer there.

I took it at WCC, just make sure it transfers! I took more than one PHL class, so they just picked one, I can't remember which :p But I'm sure it definitely looks good :) I'll definitely take a look at the transfer equivalency. It'll be awesome if I won't have to retake any of those courses!!!! :)

I wish I didn't have to take one of the general chem or bio classes. School like U of M and even EMU didn't require those 2 courses to be done. I will have to look on line at the WCC and see what they offer this summer. I may even check OCC too.

I just looked up the pathophysiology class BIOL 212 at WCC and it transfers to OU as BIO 121 (clinical anatomy & physiology). I guess it could be a good thing since I took SPMD 201 & 202 at EMU as A & P and it was a specific to nursing students and OU takes ZOL 201 & 202 which is supposed to be the same course as the nursing section SPMD 201 & 202. I don't think OCC will take SPMD 201 & 202 unless I can get some documentation that says it is equivalent to ZOL 201 & 202.

where is the transfer info? I'd like to check to see if my pharm from U of M transfers!
