University of Michigan (UofM) Accelerated program

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

Hi everyone!!! I am new to allnurses.com - I was wondering if anyone has applied for the Fall 2009 accelerated program? I have not been able to attend an information session due to scheduling conflicts. Does anyone know how many people apply to the program or know any "insider" info? I know that 50 people get in every year - I just submited my application last week for the early response deadline - good luck to all!!

Btw, congrats on getting onto the waitlist! Thats is definitely good news as far as I'm concerned. Did they rank you? (Never mind, just read the last few posts, and you already said they dont rank.)

I agree, I'm very happy! However, I think I feel more anxious about the whole situation. They did not rank me. I think I get reviewed again if a spot opens up. They say we're not ranked, but they probably have a secret list somewhere :p

Btw, I am in the exact same boat as you ;)

I know what you mean, it would make me nervous as hell too---dont know if I should move on or celebrate. But I'd prefer to take it as good news and do a little waitlist celebration, haha.

I have struggled because of my undergrad gpa....not so good :( However, I think I'm starting to become a competitive applicant because of many years of great grades. I have set the curve in every nursing class I have taken and have maintained a 4.0 for the last 2 years. Event though I didn't get into U of M, they must have taken that into consideration since I made it on the wait list. I think improvement is really important. Many of us are probably in a different place in our lives than when we first started college. When I was 18 I didn't know what I was doing. I'm hoping that the rest of the schools I apply to look at the improvements I've made and experience I have gained in this journey.

are you applying to other schools also? I've turned in 3 more apps since Michigan. I'm working on two more!

I did do a little celebration, I ordered pizza :) And it was yummy :)

Where to?

I applied to JHU (denied--twice! haha), and also OHSU--just mailed the proctored essay over yesterday (I wont be hearing from them anytime soon).

And I'm studying for the GREs...

are you out of state? I'm applying to other Michigan schools, Oakland, Eastern, Wayne State, and then I'm applying to three community colleges. At this point, I just want to be a nurse. So I'm willing to go to a cc to get my degree and to get my foot in the door. I hear that I should have a decent shot at Oakland, they automatically grant interviews if you meet the basic requirements.

Nice! Thats a good strategy--apply to as many as possible. Good luck!

I missed most of the other deadlines that I originally planned for, the cc's over here (in California) are very very packed. The average wait is 3 years... And I must take Intro to Nursing before I can even apply (which I havent done yet)--which I'll get to in the next quarter or so. The cc programs are very affordable here though. I'll apply to them as soon as I get all my courses in.

JustJane,

I called about waitlist procedure. I am on the waitlist. I found out when a spot becomes available everyone on the waitlist goes back to a review board and they decide who will fill it.

Hi everyone,

I was reading about the waitlist and how it works. I haven't got a decision letter back yet from U of M, but I am sure it will be either a rejection or a wait list letter. I am going to apply to other programs like EMU for this fall. I already applied to OU, but the next class at OU is starting May of 2010. I can still apply to OCC as well. I thought about LCC's accelerated ADN program as well, their application deadline is June 1st for fall of 2009. It kind of stinks to have to wait till 2010 to start a program, but it is better than nothing if no place works out for fall.

Hey MelBell, I just applied to OU also? I turned in my goal statement/app yesterday!!!! :) Have you received an interview yet? Do you know how long we have to wait? I agree, it's better than nothing. If we don't get into anywhere for Fall 2009, May 2010 really isn't that far off!

I talked to a Kristine White I belive and she sent me everything to apply, but I am actually not as far as you are, i am still waiting for my program of study to come in the mail and then i can go ahead do the goal statement. From what I heard from other people who have gone to OU, they take everyone mostly just as long as your GPA is over a 3.0 in those 5 classes, my only problem is my gen chem and gen bio were taken 12 years ago, so the advisor said to re-take one of them. I am actually going to attend a nursing information session next tuesday at OU.
