Anyone accepted to the 2009 summer start accelerated program? Also, anyone with any information on the program such as hours, days, etc.?

I am just about to graduate this program. Long year!

Anyhow, many of the students have white shoes with a bit of grey or other colors on them. It depends on who your clinical instructor is. Some instructors wouldnt mind if you were wearing blue shoes. I would just get one pair of all white shoes to play it safe then later on you could try out something else.

For the computer, you just need a decent computer that picks up wireless signals. If its a recently new computer you should be fine.

The books are a huge ripoff. I never read any of them anyways. Between studyguides, powerpoints, and saunders you dont need most of them.

If I had to do it again the only book I would buy would be Saunders. I would do the questions on the systems they were going over in class and read the coresponding chapters. Saunders will get you through nursing school with excellent grades.

I forgot to add the clinicals at Miami are awesome. They must be about the best in the country. You will see tons of funky stuff at Jackson. The lecturers are a mixed bag. I think they all now their stuff pretty much frontwards and backwards, but the level of excitement definetely varies. Not sure if nursing lectureers could ever be exciting but monotone or barely decipherable english sucks. Overall, Id give lecturers 8/10 and clinical 10/10. It is unorganized and they seem to wing it but if your disciplined about studying and keeping up its not that bad. The first half of the first semester will suck really badly, boot camp style, then it gets better.

jerrylundergard...thanks for your post...i'm excited to hear some good news about UM...i'm wondering if you are selling your books...as long as it is the same book and version this year, it would be great for me to buy your books rather then through the bookstore. just a thought...

Hi,

I appreciate being able to read these posts. I also applied for the March 1st deadline. I haven't heard anything and getting concerned... Has anyone who applied for the March 1st deadline heard back?

Did you get admitted now? I did. but it is a hell of a lot of stuff to do before getting to UM!!

Do you know at least some of the books? Authors? I sent emails to a number of people at UM on this, but no good leads yet. I might be able to get them cheaper here in Boston.

Letter was supposed to be leather in the email LOL. That's all I know, I got all nike's white leather "athletic" type.

When I first came to America, I got so confused by such terms like "athletic"... I would see long sleeved shirts called athletic.. and no one was using them to play football, soccer, run, etc!! Lol

Hello SKywalker

r u from boston....r u still in boston...i am here in boston...leaving on the 9th of may for miami...do u want to meet on newbury to say goodbuy to boston:)

Has anyone gotten in for the Fall 2009 accelerated program starting in August? I have, but am wondering when I will start to get all the info about what I need to get done, and what offices I need to get to to prove I have immunizations, how to get a background check done, etc. Do you think I can start going into offices now and taking care of things like that on campus?

I'm also curious if we can get the titles/authors of the major textbooks for the first semester so I can get an advance move-on. Thanks for all your help - It's good to get an idea of what to expect!

I got in after applying for the March 1st deadline. But that means I am feverishly trying to make it in time... there is lots of stuff to do in the meantime. Did you get in? How far are you in the process?

Hey Roberta23, I am still in Boston and will be here for a "long, long"... I happen to be one of the March 1st deadline people and so there are still a million things to do before I can get in!! I am on a fast and furious mode right now. Yes, lets meet at Newbury this week. Wednesday morning, Friday after 4.30 and Saturday best time for me. What's your email?

I'm sooo excited. I've been poked, stabbed, and shot-up so many times getting all of my immunizations ready, and now they're complete. My shoes, stethoscope, penlights, and scrubs arrived today. (btw....I look like I'm wearing a hunter green tent with marshmellows on my feet) I'm just waiting for the financial aid office to get their act together....but I'm ready. I can hardly wait for us all to meet each other!!

Hi everyone. I'm beginning the accelerated program in May and I was just wondering if anyone has any information on books. Anyone know the titles or approximately how much they will cost?
