University of Maryland Traditional BSN Fall Program: Any idea when we will hear back?

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that applied last fall that could tell us when they learned the fate of their application? I was just wondering how long we (Fall 2009 applicants) would have to wait until we hear back from the admissions office. Thanks and good luck to everyone else!

When you say that most have a healthcare background, can you quanitify it a bit more? Like 51%? 95%? As a career changer, I don't really have much healthcare experience. I hope they don't hold it against me.

Also, since you applied for the spring semester, i would think that there are generally less applicants than in the fall. Thus, im thinking it will take longer than the 5-6 weeks for us fall folks.:crying2:

Hehehe I still have to do my validation tomorrow. Though I gotta say for a rough estimate...maybe half or so of the people in the program had healthcare jobs before school? What do you think dorkalicious?

There are definitely people there without prior experience and then there are people who know a little bit more. But we're still all learning new things whether its the patho and the 100 slides we have to print out a week for class (stock up on printer ink...seriously) or the fundamentals and wound care. I find it handy when they mention something in class that I've either seen before or know about, it sort of cements the knowledge a little bit more. But there are still new people getting into this that are making the grades.

Study habits are really killing some people though, you have to play the game to figure out how to pass each class. But hey, one with wave of tests down I think we're doin it!

Hi all! Now that i have recieved the "we got your application" postcard, i can rest my nerves. Also took the NET which was a relief. Now, can someone tell me how to check the status of my app online? I keep seing and hearing things refer to this and cannot find a link anywhere.

Anyone committee ready?

thanks lolo, but the only option when i log in is fill out an application for spring 2010.

i did apply online in january for fall 09.

ack. what to do? i guess ill call ms. barnes. i just didnt want to sound like an idiot.

I wanna say at least 60% of the students have HC background, another 10-15% had parents in the HC field, and the some were second career students. As long as you have an impressive application, I wouldn't worry. Having HC background makes it a tad bit easier do relate to all the information being thrown at you in class, thats all.

I suppose it could take longer for a response for the Fall semester, not sure on that, just that it took us 5-6 weeks for an answer.

Hello, I am in the 2nd semester of my first year in the nursing school. If you think the first semester is stressful, wait until you have adult health in the 2nd semester. I seriously don't have a life outside school. Well....I thought it's stressful enough right now...haha...not too much so until I heard how the seniors talked about their final semester....Gosh..it never ends.

Anyway, I remembered my acceptance letter didn't come until the beginning of April. But the online status did update before I got the letter. So keep on checking it.

Hello everyone, I am another applicant for the Fall 2009 admission. I applied for the Shady Groove Campus. If there is anyone out there attending that campus let me know how it is out there? Man I am so nervous about this admission letter. I am guessing that I will at least know if I am accepted online within the next two weeks. I feel like I am qualified and I have a good chance but I am still very nervous. I have a pretty good general and science gpa and I have some years of experience behind me in the medical field. I have also noticed a few military or prior military students within the forum. I am also in the military, U.S. Navy. Well that is me, and I know there are more than a few people out there feelin my pain waitin on this letter.

The Shady Grove campus is much more intimate than the B'more campus. The group is considerably smaller (approx. 50 people) and you will know everyone by first name in a couple of weeks. The same professors will be with you through the 2 year progam and you will have a relationship with all the staff. If you are looking to just be a face in the crowd, this campus is not for you. Everyone knows everything!

Footnote: the staff are all rooting for you and want you to succeed. It may not always feel like it, but they do. They are tough sometimes because they want the best out of you. Hey, you're ex-military so you know the drill. Be all you can be! Good luck.

I am a certified respiratory therapist and I was wondering if I would be able to work weekends while completing the program full time?

It's possible, if you're well organized. I really think it depends on how exhausting your job is as well. For the 2nd semester, I only worked one 12-hr shift (because of Adult Health). I'm in my 3rd semester, I currently work 20 hours per week on the weekend. It's hard, but it can be done.
