Hello, Since the other University of Maryland postings were high stress 'leveled' I'm starting a new one!
I've enjoyed the 'helpfulness' amongst the 2009 classes but here's 2010's THREAD START :heartbeat
So my application is in for UMD and if anyone else wants to celebrate being done applying and sending everything
in put up a cheer!!!
for just being done with applying!!!
I wonder how long it'll take to get a YES!!! or a thank you, next time
Anyways, I heard there is usually 400-500 applications for about 150 slots... so hopefully everyone turns out okay.
You are correct - after Committee Ready if your status changes to Admit Institution :ancong!: your official offer is in the mail. You will have two weeks to sign an acceptance agreement and send it in with a $400 deposit. Then your status changes to Accept Applicant. At that point, the only thing that will trigger rescinding your offer is if your last transcript shows you got less than a B in your last prerequisite courses.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!
To Grey Lady: how is overall GPA calculated? I know to be competitive it needs to be above a 3.0... is the overall GPA from the 59 prereqs taken or EVERY single college class EVER taken (even it it was basket 101 weaving and it doesn't fill the 59 rereqs or you took 'stage drama for nuclear physics class 211' and it wasn't in the 59....) Sorry I'm just confused as to how 'GPA is calculated down at UMB'... thank you if you can answer that
Science GPA= Chem, Bio, AP1, AP2, Micro, Nutr.
Overal GPA= Just the 59 prereqs on the coursework page submitted?
or
Overal GPA= every class EVER taken since college was started.... even if you didn't finish a degree & switched majors...
Sorry - I can't answer that and I am not sure there is a hard and fast answer. I know your science GPA is heavily relied on and that more weight is given to recent, relevant classwork. If you had a bummer first semester and were a star after that, the admissions committee will take note of that, especially if you included some sort of explanation in your essay. 3.0 is the minimum overall GPA but the reality is that, to date, the competition drives the average GPA of accepted students well above that. Traditionally, we receive fewer applicants for spring than for fall and this will be only the second time we have accepted spring students at the Shady Grove campus. So, competition-wise, this just might be one of the easiest semesters to enter just from the sheer number of applicants. In the end.....nobody knows until the class is filled and that can't be relied on as a predictor of the next class. Wish I could be more informative.
Mine is still "Complete Ready For Review" I sent all documents in by Sep1.(accident about my official toefl score, they never got it so I need to resent it again). If my status never change that's mean I have high chance that I won't get in?
Committee Ready is only for people who have a chance to get in or it's for everyone.
By the way, the sciences GPA will include chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology only.
the first day of october is tomorrow..geesh now im nervous about my status. i knew that a decision wasn't going to be posted until october probably, but now....oh man.
well i guess i have to keep just reminding myself that i did the best that i could have and that its not up to me anymore...
good luck everyone! hope to see you around the SG campus come January!:lghmky:
I hope to see you all at Shady Grove in Jan. Please hang in there - don't expect to know anything before mid-October. If you get an offer before then it will be a nice surprise. And if anyone has any questions about Shady Grove, I would be happy to answer them. Please feel free to visit campus any time but especially on Saturday, October 24 for our Open House. (See the SG website http://www.shadygrove.umd.edu) It is an event for all SG prospective students and their families but I always encourage our new admits to come to meet our students, faculty (and me!) and, hopefully, members of your class. And bring your friends and family to see where you will be spending the next two years of your life. I guarantee you will be glad you came.
