I am moving to Texas, and thinking to join RN-BSN program. Does any body knows about Houston Baptist University. How is the program?
Any replies would be highly appreciated.

Jena,
HBU is a great nursing school.
If you are accepted at HBU - jump at it. Nice campus - small classes and lots of individual attention.
They have a very strong program with very high NCLEX pass rates. Their grads are highly sought after by most area recruiters. However, it is a PRIVATE, Faith-based school. So -- prepare yourself for sticker shock at the cost & the fact that religion is interwoven into their curriculum.
Be sure to prepare yourself for the whole "Houston" experience also - don't know where you are coming from, but I can pretty much guarantee that we're different than what your're used to. Public transportation is non-existent so you probably won't be able to avoid doing battle on our freeways.
Good Luck - feel free to PM if you want more info about H-town

All I know is they are $$$$ because they are private.
I'm not sure what the above poster is talking about with nonexistent public transportation. We have a LOT here in Houston with Metro. In fact, I never drove to nursing school and 90% of my clinical sites..then again they were all in the med center, university included. Even if you're not centrally located, there are busses.
Thank you for your valuable replies. I really appreciate it. I see the tuition is very high, but hoping to get some scholarship.
Do u have any idea if in west Houston there is on campus RN to BSN classes.
I would really appreciate your replies.

I know nada of that school but can tell you I loved the RN-BSN program at UTHSC-H; for the record, the program coordinator is one of the best instructors I've had in my years (and they are plentiful) as a student; as a rule of thumb she will treat you more like a colleague than a subordinate student; but the greatest thing about her is that she will not lecture you for 3 hours on Wednesday; every class day is different with watching movies, having discussions, guest speakers, and all sorts of activities; the classes are challenging and the workload is significant (esp. the 2nd semester) but it all flies by pretty quickly
the other thing I can tell you is that their MSN program is quite well regarded throughout the country (and they have a number of programs--mgmt., PNP, FNP, ACNP, ANP, PMHNP, WHNP, CRNA, GNP, and maybe a couple I'm forgetting) so if you happen to aspire to become a APRN or get into mgmt, getting in the door as a RN-BSN/MSN student will definitely aid you in getting to the next step

If you want to do ICU, adult or otherwise, it's a great, great school to go to because you gain lots of skills in clinical. The teachers are mostly very nice as well. Convocation points, NSA points, and special classes needed are major downsides if you don't have the time for them. It's expensive and I have a pretty big loan to pay back, but I passed my NCLEX and have a job, so it worked out. I don't regret going there, though some people do get very bitter about having gone to the school.
