University of Hawaii-MEPN PROGRAM...anyone heard about it?

U.S.A. Hawaii

I'm applying for UH MEPN program for Fall 2009. Has anyone heard about the program? It's fairly new but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into...lol. I know overall, nursing school is tough but would like some feedback on the MEPN program itself.

Thanks!

I only applied to UH and KCC. I wish applied to Hilo and Maui now! If no go on my apps, last resort is HPU. Saw not positive stuff on their prgm on this site =( but not want to wait around.

Star07..

I applied for the family NP, but they told me that it was the most popular (aka hardest to get into).. now I'm wishing I would have chosen a different specialty!! I think that regardless of each person's verdict, that they should tell us all at the same time. It's just ridiculous that those rejected or waitlisted have to wait around and get their hopes up.

suzieninja..

thanks for the info! i guess no matter where you live you know you were accepted if you received a phone call!! shucks should i knew i should have applied for med school!!

swordfight..

I completely agree with you! But as you may have heard even JABSOM will now start to accept a higher number of out-of-state students b/c they are basically POOR!

It's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to get straight answers!

I heard nothing from them. No phone call, nothing in the mail, no e-mail, nothing. Very disappointed and discouraged. I'd be happy even if I got a rejection letter, at this point.

Oh well, guess it wasn't meant to be.

I agree. A little disappointed that I have heard nothing from the school being that I spent a lot of time completing my application and paying the fee. It would have been nice if there was contact made, even if it was a rejection. Hearing nothing at all is very very disappointing. Good luck to all those who were accepted

I hear you both. I got a 2 second phone call saying I was accepted, telling me that I should be expecting things in the mail (which still haven't come). and their application fees were ridiculous! They were so much more expensive than other schools. Does it make any one else concerned about the program? given their lack of communication between applicants?

nikki164,

have you been given a deadline to respond to the program?

I was also wondering how the program is being that the admin is a little unorganized...

no.. they didn't say anything. and sadly, i had a procedure done on my ankle that morning, so when they called i was in a bit of a haze. i woke up a few hours after and asked my boyfriend who was in the room with me when they called if i dreamt the whole thing. and he assured me it happened, so i am unfortunately blanking on any true details they gave me (though i really don't think they gave me any). all they said was that they'd be sending information and forms in the mail and i should receive them soon.

If you guys have never attended UH before... Get used to last minute decisions and poor communication. I took classes there one summer and they couldn't tell me I had housing on campus until 2 days before my flight was to leave!!

Has anyone gotten a rejection in the mail? Its really upsetting to me that I NEVER got ANYTHING. No phone call, no e-mail, nothing! If I am rejected then let me know, but I am pretty upset with them and their lack of respect for their applicants. I spent money and time to complete my application, so I would have hoped they would respect their applicants enough to let them know their status.

KKandes,

I completely agree with you.. if they tell us we should receive something by a certain date then follow through on your word!! I think I am more upset that i didn't receive any notice than if i find out i am rejected! :nono:

I was told today that those accepted should be receiving a letter soon...and the rest of us could assume we were denied. They accept more applicants than the average, anticipating that 1/3 of those applicants will decide to go elsewhere. Good luck to those who are attending, I will try again next year, but apply to more schools:) I have two small children and my parents who live in Hawaii, so I would really like to stay in Hawaii and serve the Pacific Island popln...there is a severe shortage of practitioner's in general in Hawaii. We should all be receiving some sort of letter in the next week or two.

I agree that the school should send out both denial and acceptance letters, but neither have been received. I was accepted, and got in touch with them today. I still haven't received a letter of acceptance. They said they would be sending it out shortly. This is just my thoughts, but I think that they have put off sending them because they were seeing who was still interested in the program. I hope it isn't indicative of how the program is run. I am hoping for the best. I'm hoping all of us get some form of information soon. Congrats to those accepted, and best of luck to the rest! We will all do great things and get in somewhere!

Cheers
