University of Hawaii-MEPN PROGRAM...anyone heard about it?

U.S.A. Hawaii

I'm applying for UH MEPN program for Fall 2009. Has anyone heard about the program? It's fairly new but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into...lol. I know overall, nursing school is tough but would like some feedback on the MEPN program itself.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

I am new to allnurses and was glad to find that this blog existed!

Congrats to all those who were accepted into their specific programs!! :D

I was curious, at the end of my interview I was told I would receive a letter by March 1st, but nothing yet!!!

Anyone living on-island get a letter yet??

Please let me know when you can!! I'm so nervous!

Thanks

Congrats to all of those who were accepted. Did everyone that was accepted have an interview? I am assuming that since I did not have an interview I was not accepted.... seems to be the normal thing but just thought I would ask ....wishful thinking :)

good luck to everyone

i was called with a phone interview. i am not from hawaii, and have never visited the school. i was actually quite surprised that i was accepted. unfortunately, since i am out of state and it is a state school, i think tuition would be insanely expensive, especially considering cost of living. but we'll see. i'm originally from pennsylvania, but i'm currently living in nashville TN.

I was called for an interview an I live on the Big Island, but I did not make 1st pick for acceptance. From my understanding, if you did not receive a call, you can assume that they've not contacted you yet OR may have been placed on the waitlist. They're still trying to contact those who were initially chosen/accepted and the applicant has ~2 weeks to make a decision. Then they will contact those on the waitlist if there are openings.

It would be less stressful if notifications were done thru email:) has anyone rec'd a letter with no personal phone call regarding their status? Just wondering...

What specialty track did you choose and how did you know you got waitlisted? Via phone call, email, or letter?

They should just do everything by email, I think that would be much more efficient.

reach4thesky,

I was not told if I was placed on the waitlist...I was told that they're still trying to contact those who were chosen 1st, and then if the 35 seats were not filled they would contact people who were waitlisted. I wish I knew if I were waitlisted or not! But I'm very sure that I was not on the initial contact list of applicants who were accepted...I was wondering if anyone rec'd an official letter yet?

I chose the Adult/Geriatric specialty, what was your specialty?

I haven't received any contact since my interview, which seemed to go genuinely very well. I am on Oahu. Been feeling a bit disappointed, and trying to not be stressed.

MMT917, it's really stressful. I want to change my career soon, but stay in Hawaii for schooling and work. Will you try again? Are you applying anywhere else?

I got a call on wednesday letting me know I was "conditionally" accepted. I'm in Hawaii and am in the process of completing my last pre-requisite. The rule is that all PR's have to be completed before first summer session so I'm guessing once they know if the conditionally accepted people are going to be able to fill thier seats then they will have a true count of how many remaining spots there are (maybe?)

My specialty is CNS

I live on island and have not yet recieved my letter - just checked the mail :)

I am on island, completed an interview, still no word. Called the office, from what I gathered I probably have not been accepted as they are already calling those who have been. I was told I'd receive a letter next week...if not then...the week after. Really confused as to what their acceptance criteria is.

I am curious though...how many RESIDENTS of Hawaii have actually been accepted vs. NON-residents? At my interview I was told it was 50/50 which seems odd as this is a state school. John Burns Medical School at UH accepted 90% residents last year in an attempt to increase the number of physicians that stay in state to practice, as we are facing shortages. Why would that be any different for APRNs, especially as they are replacing most General Physicians? Can everyone pls let me know their residency and acceptance status? I do intend to bring this up with the school.

Thanks!
