Mahalo for your quick response and the helpful info! I reached out to the program and they said that they are still releasing application decisions in these next two weeks. Fingers crossed for good news! Congrats to everyone who got in btw--I hope to join you soon.

Hello everyone,

I want to get your opinion(s). I got accepted to 3 direct entry DNP schools so far--UVM, UMass, and UH. UH is really one of my top choices. However, the tuition scares the heck out of me. I made some calculations and I ended up getting a total of around 250k just for an out of state tuition. Can somebody confirm that an out of state student like me might spend like this ridiculous amount? I will be paying out of state tuition anyway, wherever I go, but I think >250k is a bit unreasonable? I would love to be in Hawaii but this is just too much, especially that scholarships and grants are uncertain. Deadline to pay the deposit is approaching. ?

I was told that UH doesn't require a tuition deposit for graduate students, and that the "Intent to Enroll" form and SIR will suffice.  I emailed GEPN and the Graduate division because my form didn't have any info about the tuition deposit.  I did this last week and my UH account reflects as a graduate student already.  However, I'm not too sure if that's the case for out-of-state recipients.

As for your question, if the tuition is similar for all 3 nursing programs, you should consider the cost of living for each state when deciding which program to choose.  Hawaii is a pretty expensive state, rent and food here is expensive.  If you have family or a place to stay and you're okay with the cost of living, then definitely come here.

Oh yeah, I just realized there is no deposit. I guess the deadline for accepting or declining the offer is fast approaching.

I don't have family in Hawaii so that's another thing that scares me. ?

Has anyone on the alternate list heard back yet? ?

I have not heard anything yet. I tried reaching out to them to get some sort of idea where I am on the list since, but they said it's confidential and it's based on a scoring system or something of that nature. It's just kind of frustrating since I got into a mainland school and could potentially start in the Summer, but I live on Oahu and moving is going to be very expensive for me ?. I don't even know if it's worth waiting for....

Hi! Me - No not yet. I called yesterday, and GEPN coordinator Justin asked for my last name. He couldn't disclose on ranking #s. He did say points are based on essay, GPA, etc. Also, he did say congrats for being chosen alternate bc UHM don't pick a lot of alternates, knowing that they receive 200 applicates every yr. Hoping for the best. Alternates: Have you guys apply for FAFSA in case?

That's good to hear! I was under the impression that a lot of people were on the alternate list because it seems like everyone I know is on it as well. Thanks for the insight, that makes me feel a little better about myself haha. I haven't applied for FAFSA or anything like that yet.

Wow, congrats on getting accepted in the mainland! I can imagine the frustration and stress you're going through.

Sorry for this reply/comment to be kinda off-topic, but during your call did you happen to pick up any info about if all the acceptance letters have been sent out yet? I have not heard anything back yet...it's making me lose hope that they are just taking a long while to send out denials. I am trying to be optimistic, but any information for me would be much appreciated!

I read on their site, FAFSA priority deadline is 2/1
