University of Detroit Interview pending...

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

Hello to all. This is my first posting to this forum, though I have read many entries regularly.

Does anyone have any advice pertaining to the University of Detroit Mercy's CRNA program?? I have an interview this month and am VERY nervous/excited/unable to concentrate on anything else.

I am not really sure as to what to expect for the interview. How long are they usually? (I am not sure if any of the readers are from the Metro area, but hello to anyone who is.)

I have heard that this group is not as "technically" based as some other programs, but can anyone tell me if there is a certain set of standard tech. questions?

I don't mean to sound hysterical, but I may be heading that way...

Thanks for any advice.

Congratulations asianrn & nursekern! :balloons: Doesn't it feel AWESOME :)

It most certainly does. I have to thank everyone here for their insight, allnurses.com has helped me so much with this endeavor!

Congrats!

So what kind of questions were you guys asked? Also I only have ER experience, what do you guys think my chances of getting in are??

I know of at least 2 students currently in the program whose experience was mostly ER, so it is possible. Better if it is a large teaching hospital ER with some uber-critical stuff. AND in the interview, if they know your experience is mostly ER, I am willing to bet that they will ask you some non-typical-ER stuff like swan-ganz stuff and vasoactive drips.

Good thing is the questions are pretty straight forward. I had three clinical questions, critical care stuff, not real nit-picky. Then of course there are all the non-clinical questions about how you've prepared for the rigors of CRNA school, what you have to offer the program, what your weaknesses are, etc. I would plan for all those questions, they will all be asked in one form or another.

Also, when they ask you if you have any questions, be prepared. This is your opportunity to show them that you think like someone they want in their program. Ask about leadership opportunities, professional memberships for students, research opportunities. Of course the caveat is that you better actually BE a leader, a professional, and interested in research if you ask these questions. You can sense in the interview that the panel members have finely honed BS detectors.

That being said, they will treat you as a professional. I did not feel belittled, intimidated, or inferior at all during the whole process. Good luck!

Hi guys. My nursing school GPA is 3.86, GRE score is 1310/1600 and my BS is in engineering . Can someone tell me about my chances to get in UDM nurse anesthesia program with just one year experience. I am a minority student so does anyone know about other minority students accepted at UDM? any other suggestions regarding the interview process???

Thanks

What kind of nursing experience do you have

By next fall, I would have one year of experience in the ICU.

when are u going to apply, i mean the more experience you have the more chances you have of getting, 2 years ICU experience by the time you start CRNA school is preferred according to one director of a CRNA program. It's very competetive. Also which ICU do you work in?

I am working in MICU and SICU combined. Planning to apply for fall 2008 class.I am going to talk to the director on Monday and see what he says. Are you in the program right now?

How do you work in the MICU and SICU combined? No i am not in the program, but my 2 best friends just got accepted into Wayne States CRNA program.

the hospital I work in has one combined ICU for both medical and surgical patients.
