University of California, Irvine (UCI) Master's Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) 2024

Updated:   Published

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to create this forum because I haven't seen one for this cycle. I figured it would be a good way to connect with others who are going through the application process, are scared, nervous, excited, or lost. (or maybe all of the above) Also just a great way to stay updated with the application cycle. The application closes on Nov 1st! ?

Would love if anyone wanted to introduce themselves, and why they decided to apply to UCI nursing masters program.

I will start!

I am in my last semester of college! WOO WOO! Graduating with my bachelors in Kinesiology, and I currently have a 3.63 GPA. I have over 300 hours of volunteer/ clinical experience. I have over 50 shadowing hours for different nurses, and doctors. I chose UCI because they have access to some of the best hospitals, but I chose Masters, because I am sure as you all know BSN and ADN programs are so impacted and only care about numbers. (Yes I know this program is extremely competitive ;-;) UCI looks at other things besides numbers, which for me is important.

I just submitted my application today (I know late) but I unfortunately had a lot of unexpected events happens in the past two month that caused a huge delay ? so I am hoping it doesn't affect my application too much.

Good luck everyone, I wish we could all just get accepted.

ALSO..... did anyone else flinch when they saw the price of the application ;-;

Yes we have a week to submit, I'm super nervous. If anyone can please share tips.

I was invited to an in person interview last year at another school and the interview asked a lot of "what would you do if" questions. The interviewers gave scenarios and you would answer what you would do.

Not sure how UCI will conduct their virtual interview, but in the past when I had to do virtual interviews (for another program and job interviews) and recorded my responses, they usually give 10-20 seconds to gather our thoughts before the first recording begins.  I was allowed to replay the recording and only had 1 more attempt to re-record my response.

You'll be fine.  It's okay to feel nervous.  Think of it like a speech and try not to stutter and use "like".  Take a deep breath, collect your thoughts, and present.  ?

Best of luck to you and everyone who received the interview invite today.

How many people do they interview?

Does anyone know how we accept the interview invite? I got a link today to accept the invitation but it says we don't need to start. What do they mean?

It's Friday night and I still haven't heard anything looks like interview invites were sent out this afternoon, should I be concerned or is there any one out there that is still waiting like me?!?!

Anyone do the interview yet? Any advice? I am super nervous, I just purchased new interview attire. I also am working on the DEIB essay that I got invited to apply for. Does anyone know what exactly the essay is for? I can't seem to find any information on their website about it, but figured it couldn't hurt to do it since it's optional. Did everyone receive this essay invite who go an interview?

Hey Cari! I haven't done the interview yet but am planning on doing it by Monday. I went through an interview process at a different school last year (which I was waitlisted for) and was asked a lot of critical thinking questions and hypotheticals so I would definitely practice those. What really helped me with my interview anxiety was answering practice questions in the mirror in the days leading up to the interview and doing breathing techniques when I was not actively speaking.

I also got an invitation to do the DEIB essay (I am a WOC) but wasn't able to find anything online about it either. I'm going to do it just in case! Best of luck with your interview!

For those who got an interview invite, what was your science GPA? I am planning to apply next cycle and it would help me out, thank you and congrats!

They don't look at your science GPA only your overall GPA for your bachelors degree. I have a 3.65 cumulative GPA.

Thank you so much for the information! I figured it would be a lot of questions like that! And probably the biggest one "why do you want to be a nurse.” I am beyond nervous but I'm just gotta try and give it my all. ? Good luck to you as well!

I just finished writing my DEIB just gotta edit it. I am also a WOC.

Do they give scholarships?

Has anyone taken the interview yet? Could give us any tips on the questions, or how the interview went? Thank you

How did your interview go? I also submitted a DEIB essay, but could not find any information about the fellowship.
