University of California, Irvine (UCI) Master's Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) Fall 2023

Published

Hi all,

I had seen a discussion thread last year for students who applied to UCI's MEPN program and I found the comments really helpful. Maybe by connecting we can see when invitations to interview are sent out. ? I did see that UCI was expanding its MEPN program this year which is exciting!

A little about me-I am pursuing nursing at the mid stages of my life. I have a degree in Health Education and Health Promotion and community health nursing is my aspiration! Hope we can connect!

I am also throwing my hat into other degree programs- CSUF, Golden West, Saddleback, Vanguard. Basically anywhere that fits my goals and budget ?

Hi everyone! I applied to UCI's program too but I haven't heard back, I checked my portal but there's no update about my application status ? Did anyone receive an interview invitation since last Friday?

I have heard from people who applied previous years that they send interview invitations on batches and as space permits. I believe there's still a chance!

I see!! thank you @Bubbbleeel10

I know they are expanding the size of the fall 23 cohort, does anyone know how many students they will be accepting now?

Not 100% sure as the SON didn't release this info on their website, but they had requested an increase in enrollment number back in 2021 to the BRN for Fall 2022. I'm guessing it didn't get approved then, but got approved for Fall 2023. The proposal was increasing enrollment from 20/cohort to 40/cohort!

I haven't heard anything yet. We still have lots of time I think. Especially since the second application cycle is open through February 28th, so don't stress. And if we submitted our application by November 30th, it sounds like we may be considered for the second wave applications. Here's what I found on their website under FAQs:

I already submitted my application by the November 30th deadline. Can I re-submit my application?

No, however all applications received by the November 30th deadline will be considered for our priority admission review. Applicants who submitted by our priority deadline will be eligible to apply for additional fellowships and have first consideration for admission to the program.

I plan to submit by the second round deadline, when will I be notified of admissions decisions?

Second round applicants will begin to hear admissions decisions as early as Spring 2023 and as late as July 2023.

If I am not offered admission in the first round of review, will my application be moved to the second round for consideration?

Some applicants from the first round may be offered a position on the wait list and may receive offers of admission after the second round of review. Please continue to monitor your UC Irvine Graduate Admission Portal and your email address for communications about admissions status updates.

@HopefulNursingAJF Yeah, absolutely! This application cycle has a whole new factor with the additional round, so I think there are many chances, especially for people who submitted by Nov 30.

For those who received interview invitations, did you all submit the fellowship essay?

I don't understand why they needed to reopen though. They get over 500 applications each year. Wouldn't there be enough people to pick from? I know they have their motives, I am just wondering.

I am with you! There's no way they didn't receive enough applications this year, and there HAS to be more than 40 well-qualified applicants. Do they want to keep their acceptance rate low...?

Hey everyone! I also did my interview last week and submit a fellowship essay. Hopefully their responses are quick! I'll be sure to post here if I hear anything.

Any thoughts as to when we will hear back? Based off the past few years, it seems like people get invited to interview, have about a week to complete it, then hear back as to if they were admitted / waitlisted the Friday of the following week.

Crossing my fingers we hear back today! It's all I can think about LOL
