Hello, future nurses!
I'm a current U of C student who applied through the degree holder route. I'll be graduating at the end of this year. Please feel free to post any questions here!
Another round of applications is starting soon for the January 2019 intake of Transfer and/or Degree Holder students. Here's the U of C page for their info:
One of the most common questions is whether the courses you have taken meet the faculty's pre-requisites. The best way to be sure is to email a screenshot of your transcript to [email protected] and ask if you are missing anything.
Important note! As of 2019, the faculty is changing the schedule for the summer terms.
"We will compress all courses in Term 4 and Term 7 to be offered over a 9-week period from late April to the end of June. The result would be an intense spring term, but students would have no scheduled nursing courses during July and August."
While having 2 months off sounds great for some, it causes trouble for others (student loans, jobs, child care etc.). Please be aware of this change before applying.
Best of luck!
Congrats to all who got accepted. Sorry I'm a new-comer to this forum. I followed all the comments, and found I got accepted yesterday as well. I applied transfer route, and my GPA is 3.74. I'm waiting for the official admisison letter, as I read 2018 Jan. forum and found there are several things we need to prepare before the beginning of the class. For security-background record check, I went to the police station yesterday, and showed my accepted application status to the police, and hoped I'd get form filled, and police would process my record check, but I was told, police officially needs to see my official admission letter, though the accepted message shown under my student center also works, but I'd get a 50% discount if I bring my official letter. I wish we all receive our letters ASAP:)
congrats Ming!
Does anyone know what day the program will start? I'm coming from another province so trying to decide if I should move in December or January!
Congrats on the acceptance! There is typically a welcome day early January, the week before the official classes start. There will also be a few tasks to complete before you start (criminal record check, vaccination history/update, CPR, N95 fit-testing etc.). You will receive those info in a package soon!
Hi all. University of Athabasca finally finished marking everything and have issued my final grade. When I try to update my transcript under the ApplyAlberta program it lets me know that transcript requests are still in progress so I can't do anything. Does anyone know how long it takes for the transcript to be sent to University of Calgary after the final grade is posted? The last update under Apply Alberta is yesterday after I called Athabasca to ask them to rush my grades since my instructor had already marked and submitted everything over the weekend. Any input would be awesome. I'm starting to get a bit anxious and am unsure if I should also request Athabasca to courier my grades to UofC as well.
I have just gotten the green checkmark for the degree-holder program!!! So excited!!! :) Can't wait to meet you all in January!
Application statistics: I believe my GPA was 3.88, and I applied on July 5th with all documents submitted right away (I graduated from my undergrad and completed prerequisites back in 2017).
Just as a heads up, if any of you are thinking you should be getting an offer already because of your GPA and when you applied, it's worth calling the department and checking the status of your application. I phoned last week and my application was coded incorrectly (it was showing that I was a "change of program" applicant, which was incorrect) so it might have been rejected if I didn't get it fixed. I had to get enrollment services to fix the coding yesterday. The Faculty of Nursing told me I was the 2nd student with that problem.
@LunaBear this is the info I got from the Faculty of Nursing a few days ago:
"We are currently admitting students with GPAs of 3.6 and higher (Based on the 5 mandatory prerequisite courses and the 5 most recently taken courses). Regardless of when your application is reviewed, all students with GPAs over 3.6 will be admitted before the GPA cutoff is lowered.
The first offers are just being made now; we will continue to make some through September, with the bulk of offers made in October and November. We may continue making offers until mid-December."
I hope this helps ease some of the nervousness!!
