Hello Everyone,

Just want to know who else is apply to Nursing After Degree Program for Fall 2018.

I have already applied and will be taking one last prereq course through Macewan this winter term.

does anyone know what is the competitive GPA for fall intake?

I got an email notification and it reflected on bear tracks as well. For me it took over a week after all my transcripts were recieved. Sorry what do you mean by MMI.

Thanks for the response. Trusting God I get something soon.

MMI is Medical Microbiology

Hey everyone!

I'm currently finishing up my first year of the after-degree, and I wanted to try to answer some of the questions you have. As Anthony mentioned, they made significant changes to the curriculum, so keep in mind that things may be different from what I experienced.

During Fall Term we had a placement at an independent living facility practicing assessments on healthy older adults. However, this may have changed with the new curriculum. Your first placement in a hospital setting will be during winter term. We alternated two weeks in courses and two weeks at the hospital (again, this may have changed). Don't expect to know where your placement is until 1-2 weeks before the placement starts. Yes, this will be frustrating and will make it difficult to plan for transportation. You don't get any choice in where your placement is until you reach your preceptorship.

In regards to spring/summer term, I can only speak to what it looked like for my year. We all completed the in-class mental health course from May 7-29th. Half of us complete the mental health clinical rotation from June 4-July 5, and the other half go from July 12-August 16. For our group, most people wanted to do the first round (from June 4-July 5), and those classes filled up in about 15 seconds after they opened (no exaggeration). If they do the same structure for your group, I recommend that you do not book any vacations/flights/etc. until after registration for spring/summer clinical (just in case classes fill up quickly and you don't get into the section you hoped for).

I can't speak to what your class/lab schedule will look like due to the curriculum changes.

Congratulations to all who have already received their acceptance!! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions :)

Hello Everyone!

I also got an offer and I am super excited to study at U of A! Just wondering, we are supposed to pay our tuition deposit by June 10th, but it seems like they are using interac online as a method of payment. I was just wondering if there is an alternative way to pay deposit?

Sorry for the super late response!

Classes, labs, and clinical for 1st semester was pretty straight forward. I had a stable schedule of classes/labs/seminar from Mon-Thurs and a 4 hour clinical day every Friday. 2nd semester was a bit different because we switched between 2 weeks of seminar/lab and then 2 weeks of clinical from Thurs-Fri. Mondays for 2nd semester were always just lecture.

Placements are randomized

Disclaimer: The program has changed a lot for this upcoming year so my experience might be a bit different

Does anyone who has been in the program already know whether students entering the AD program usually get scholarships? I know the deadline for the scholarship applications has passed, but at my last University (and from what I can tell, at UAlberta too) there were scholarships that we were automatically considered for and received at the beginning of the year. Any idea how much students in this program usually get, if anything? I'm mostly just curious, but I'm supposed to report that on my student loan application too. Thanks!

Hello everyone. Does anyone know what happens when you submit your official transcript after the deadline? Would you still be considered for acceptance after you have been given conditional admission

I contacted them for the same thing and they said that they go off the "post-mark date that is listed on the document." My official transcript arrived after the deadline, but it had been processed by the other institution a few days before, which was fine. I had conditional acceptance, which was recently updated to fully admitted.

The email also stated that it may take up to 6 weeks to be processed by the U of A. So if yours was mailed before the deadline, you should be fine. If not, I would contact the U of A to find out.

Hi everyone,

I applied to the U of A AD program back in February and I'm still waiting to hear back on an admissions decision. I'm starting to get seriously worried as it's practically July. Does anyone know if this is normal? Should I be contacting the department to figure out if there is an issue with my application?

Hey Nicloro, I would definitely contact the faculty if you haven't heard anything. I've found that calling them is better than email (as they are usually slow to respond by email in my experience). Good luck!

I am also worried, though I just believe that they probably have a lot of applications to go through, but to be sincere I didn't think it would take this long.

Having said that, I contacted them by email 2 weeks ago and they said admissions are made on an ongoing basis and will be sent out anywhere from now until August. I hope this helps and I hope we hear something positive back fairly soon.

Also please if you do hear anything otherwise, please do let me know.

Goodluck nicloro.

Does anyone know how it works with the NURS 335 course Clinical portion not starting until Nov 19 in the Fall? My course schedule looks like there won't be class/anything on Mondays until the Clinicals begin, but I want to see if this is right. I need to book a flight for September and want to know if I can fly back on a Monday without missing class. Thanks for any help!

Hello all,

Just wanted to say that I received my admission into the program last week. I am very excited to start!
