University of Alabama

I don’t see many posts or threads about University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) Capstone College of Nursing. They offer FNP or PMHNP or dual degree. I am applying for their FNP program Fall 2020. Anyone else also applying? Or anyone who has gone through their program, tell me about it. Thanks!

I got into Samford.

Still waiting....I've heard nothing.  I just want to hear one way or the other....if I was denied, that's fine, but I need to know so I can just plan the future.

@jrridgway I still haven’t heard anything either. I’m gonna email them one more time, but there’s really no excuses for it taking this long when classes start in less than 3 months.  If it’s this unorganized to get an admissions decision, the program is probably unorganized too.

How was the interview? I am a little nervous!!

Update: I got my offer for admission pending a drug screen/background check today. But.. I was already offered a spot to finish my degree in UABs PMHNP program.

Any feedback you can provide on the program? How are the online classes structured? Do the online courses have videos on the professor's teaching or is it kind of just learn on your own?

I just graduated from the FNP program. It was a good program. You will be doing a lot of self teaching. No, I asked for them to at least do a weekly session to go over material but it never happened. Not much teaching they do use blackboard.

My best friend is enrolled at UAB PMHNP and the clinicals are the worst.  She's studying easily 40-60 hrs a week between exams papers and posts.  But she also has a class with her didactic and clinicals.  She is unable to work the last three semesters at all.
the worst thing is her preceptor and back up preceptor both had life events and now she is struggling to find another preceptor.  If she doesn't find one she will have to sit out for an entire year and come back next Summer.  It does not matter that her August preceptor is still scheduled.    She has to stop for a year and pick back up next year.    Zero exceptions Zero flexibility.   Why I am trying hard to find a different program for me for the fall.   So my advice is to have a back up preceptor to your back up.   Academically the program is solid but not unreasonable.    Instructors okay in her opinion. Except one ... always there is one for us all.    Good luck.
