Unitek College LVN program... good or Bad??

Updated:   Published

I was just wondering if anyone has attended the LVN program at Unitek College in Fremont or Santa Clara California? and if you can answer a few questions for me:

How long is the program?

What is the cost of the program?

NCLEX-PN passing rate?

and lastly, would you recommend this school?

thanks!

ya, i talked with a representative today and asked her the same question. She told me that they do not offer GE courses. Do they charge you for these courses? I already have all but 3 GE courses done and am thinking about going to Unitek so i hope everything is transferable....

Thanks so much for the info. I just had another question. I understand that Unitek does not provide GE courses for the LVN-ADN program. Does that mean they need to be taken at a local JC?

If they do not offer these GE classes that accommodate an associates degree do i have to pay separately to get these classes at a JC on my own time outside of Unitek?

Does anyone know??????

I just visited Unitek College and a few other colleges just a few months ago. My counselor was out sick or had another appt. so I had to meet the director. He was great and very informative. I know that the cost of the program may be much but Unitek has one of the few LVN to RN programs in the bay area. It was explained to me that it is going to be very difficult and there were many hours of hw. Throughout all the forums I have read for all nursing schools. There were none that described the teaching staffs as first rate. (please correct me if im wrong) I believe that when you go through any nursing program, it wont be perfect and a lot of it will be even self taught to some extent. What I saw at Unitek (labs, classrooms, students, just everything) was good. I have started their VN program and its tough but pretty good. although again the instructors are not professors from Universities but they have helped.

unitek is one of the hardest private school....

one of my friend doing lvn from there and its almost 3 years he did not graduate yet.

because he failed his exam and they drop him......then he come bac after some time and again they droped him.......they are very strick with there policys

but if u r good student then best of luck.....

if u want easy school then try in san jose there are 3 private school for lvn.

1st institue of medical education

2nd san fracis college

3rd westmed college

Unitek, is hard i agree.I don't think that IME is a good school. The staff is so unprofessional, they just want your money, really! My friend went for the first week and she dropped it! I still haven't decided on a school, still doing my research.

I also went to ST.Francis,in san jose,ca. and they just want your money, and a lot of it. West Med, i'm still researching it.Sound expensive, they won't even give you the amount for the LVN program or any information.

I'm just reasearching.

My thoughts exactly, B. 40K made me a bit queasy, but at least it was a confirmed RIGHT NOW, rather than a "sit on a list and hope for a miracle."

I'm going with Unitek. I've searched out all the past and preset threads here and on other nursing boards, and the haven't found any red flags. I also went to the CA-BON to check their credentials, and two of the four schools are accredited, whille the other two are approved, pending accreditation.

HI Mike,

I see that you posted this 2 years ago. Did you go? How was it?

vlbrown,

i know i am not mike. lol. but i wanted to say that i was thinking about doing unitek and now i am currently there and i really love it. i mean, it is hard work, but i love my instructors and i feel like i am getting a lot out of it. i am still only in the begining part but so far so good!

you're there?

Are you doing the LVN to RN?

I was just there today. I actually just got home from an appointment with David Park.

Seriously thinking about it but the Sallie Mae thing is what's hard.

The loan is paid concurrently. Not after graduating..

Thanks for the response!

:)

Valerie

hello!

I was just wondering is t was hard for you to get the loan.. i dont know if i should trust Sallie Mae because i've read some awful things about them or if i should get a private loan form a bank.. i would love to know how you exeprience has been so far and which program you are doing =) thanks in advance.

yea i am currently there right now and i am really enjoying it. :) i am in the LVN program. my teachers are great. the first 3 weeks were pre reqs and we took test almost ever day. it was tough but it was doable. my overall average in pre reqs was an low A/high B. then we started core which was a lot harder in a sense that the test was more critical thinking. but i am still doing fine.

i really enjoy it, but it isnt easy, i wouldnt recommend working if you dont have to. you have to study a lot and read a lot and class is from 8-4 Monday through Friday so like i said, it is alot of work. but it is worth it :)

as far as the loan goes, it wasnt hard to get for those who chose sali mae. others did bank loans and as far as i know people are happy with that too.

in respose to blue and yellow:

i cant figure out how to send personal messages so sorry it took so long to answer your questions.

so i am now in the second semester and it is HARD! lol. but so far its going well.

the first 3 weeks of the LVN program are basically pre reqs full of test. its a challenge but it is worth it. i think they do it to weed people out. you pretty much have a test eery day in those 3 weeks, but if you study its no problem.

once you pass pre reqs you move into first semester. Semester one went really well. i ended up getting a low A average for that semester. Don't get me wrong, it wasnt easy. i studied my tail off and worked really hard for it.

my experience at unitek so far has been really good. our teachers are so great and they really want to help you succeed. our class asked for tutoring sessions to be held after school and immediately the teacher made it happen. our tutors are previous unitek students so that is really nice too. they understand the program and really help when it comes to studying.

I am really happy (so far! lol) with my decision with Unitek. i didnt get into other state schools and i didnt want to wait around to see if i got in a lottery somewhere. I can honestly say that believe i am getting a great education here. I credit a HUGE part of that to the teachers. they really know their stuff and its such a blessing. But you get out what you put in. So far the people who have dropped out are the ones who cant handle the studying, dont do their work, and fall asleep in class. If you work hard, you will definately make it :)

as far as the loans go...a lot of pple are doing sallie mae

this is just hear say, but i hear that santa clara campus is better than fremont. Although fremont is bigger and has a little bit nicer of facilities, the atmosphere at santa clara is better, less stressful, and its quieter which totally helps!

well i hope this helps. if you have any questions just ask. i know what its like to wonder! sorry it took so long to get back to you!

is it hard to get into the Unitek LVN program?

Ive been hearing a lot of bad things about this school...is there one in Concord?
