uniform scrubs with embroidered "RN" offensive?

Our hospital is going to take away rental scrubs and force RN's to buy their own, giving them a tiny amount in compensation- supposedly enough to buy two pairs of the most basic, cheapest royal blue synthetic scrubs from a designated manufacturer. We can buy something more special such as cargo pant styles or kimono style tops, but, that extra cost comes out of our wallet. The nurses all have to have giant RN embroidered on their scrubs from this manufacturer. We are encouraged to donate our own personal scrubs to a charity.

We NICU RN's go in and out of the operating rooms. Is there an increase risk for infection going in with scrubs washed at home? Why do we have to wear this new uniform? Do any of you have to do this now? What do you think?:coollook:

We opened 9 years ago. We had hospital scrubs for the first 3 years, then they decided to have us buy our own. When we go for c-sections, we put a disposable gown, hat, mask and gloves. It is nice to be able to wear what you want and buy neat scrubs.

The hospital has never given me and money to buy my scrubs. We do have a scrub company that comes to the hospitalmonthly, with discounted scrubs, and they take the money right out of our check, if you want. You can have it divided to come out of 3 checks if you want.

Scrubs washed at home?

Nope..I think that idea got thrown by the wayside as a false sense of security, but some facilities still insist on it.

Our RN's do change to green OR scrubs for planned procedures, but wear a waterproof gown over the existing uniform for emergency c-sections when there is no time to change.

Everyone in our facility is pretty meticulous about wearing a fresh uniform every day. We are also an all-glove NICU...we do not touch babies with bare hands.

Our facility has actually won awards for our low infection rate...and every nurse here washes their uniforms at home.

An employer promised us two free uniform tops. They never provided them.
