Hi,

Sorry if this issue has already been addressed......I have searched the site with no results.

For you Regular Army soldiers, what did you wear when you commissioned?

I am RC, but I don't have Class As or Bs. Did you wear your ACUs (for those who were Reserve)?

Thanks,

c.

A Class A uniform would be appropriate. You have to have it for active duty anyway, so go ahead and get it now. Good luck with your active duty career.

Thank you very much......I will do just that!!

From what I can tell on the "Marlow White" website.....

Class A is green until '14. The new Blue ASU (Class As) will be a different weight of fabric than the Dress Blues, but you can wear the current Dress Blues for Class As until '14.

In the 4th quarter of '09 we can start using Blue Class As for our DA photo.

And the '10 starts the issue of ASU (new Blue Class As).

So, I am thinking I will get the Green Class As.......and replace them in a few years?

Totally confusing.......

and a chunk of $$$

well im active duty, and i wore acu's. I came in as a direct commission. most of the people i know were rotc and they had no choice as it was done at their schools so class A's or dress blues. I know several people who have done it in civilian clothes, acu's, class A's and dress blues. i have known people who did it at their church, their house or some outdoor location that was special to them.

congrats and i say do what will be special to you. i had my ceremony at an outdoor chapel on post with my family and friends. i do not regret wearing acu's.

Older,

I would personally not purchase the 'greens' unless it was mandatory.

I'd recommend going to this website and reading the CSM's message and the ALAARACT links.

Just like when ACUs were being issued.. I would not have purchased BDUs unless my school or chain of command made it a requirement...

2A. TO STREAMLINE THE NUMBER OF UNIFORMS SOLDIERS PURCHASE AND MAINTAIN THROUGHOUT THEIR CAREERS, THE ARMY WILL PHASE OUT THE GREEN AND WHITE SERVICE UNIFORMS AND RETAIN THE BLUE SERVICE UNIFORM AS OUR ASU. SOLDIERS WHO CURRENTLY HAVE A BLUE SERVICE UNIFORM CAN IMMEDIATELY BEGIN WEARING THIS UNIFORM AS THEIR ASU, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE IMPLEMENTING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.

Hi JC,

Thanks for the website, I did read that alaaract link. I guess my question is, I don't have Dress Blues or current Class As. Would you buy Dress Blues and wear them until ASUs are released? Or just wear ACUs and wait a year to buy the ASUs?

OD, well.. what is your timeline with OBC and such.. active or reserves? Do you anticipate being in for a while or?

Unless you 'need' the A's it seems better to get the blues... extract below if from Marlow's website.. my caveat is I know the ASU is out there - just not to familiar with it ;)

  • The current dress blue coat and the current dress blue trousers with belt loops will be the base components for the male uniform
  • The current dress blue coat, the current skirt, and a ASU slack will be the base components for females

Hi JC,

I have gone to OBLC as a reservist, now I am planning on commissioning Regular Army for (at least 7yrs) for the CRNA program. So, I guess I will buy Dress Blues, as I will need them for commission, promotions, DA photo, etc?

thanks
