I submitted my application to CSCC at 9:00 am this morning. Later today, I found out that dozens of other people had the same idea. They camped out in the computer lab and all waited to hit the 'enter' key at 9:00 am. The application was supposedly for Spring '11, but only a few people will get in due to the overwhelming number of applicants from the Fall '10 crowd. I'm fairly certain that I will not start until almost a year and a half from now. I find this frustrating, considering I have the same chance of getting in as someone who has much lower grades than mine (I have a 3.9 GPA). Are there any good alternatives to Columbus State out there?
Will have to do a varicella titer since I've had the chicken pox but no vaccination or titers, right? And then get the vaccine if my titers aren't up to par?
The rest I have proof of vaccination. Will need to redo TB test but should prob wait so I don't have to renew as fast :)
Thanks for the info!
There may not be a wait list at CSCC but they do require many more pre reqs than other schools before you can apply to the program.I personally know people who are in the program and it is taking about 5 years to get through the whole process.... YIKES!!
You can complete the prerequisites in one quarter. What other school offers that!? NURC 101/102 can be taken in the same quarter, CHEM 113, and PSY 100. Would be a rough quarter, but doable. Otherwise, easy to do in 2 quarters. It took me far less time to complete the CSCC prerequisites than it would have at many other schools. Many schools require classes like anatomy, physiology, and microbiology too. CSCC does not.
Prerequisites: Winter/Spring 2009
Apply: July 2010
Start: March 2011
Graduate: December 2012
Just under 4 years. That's pretty typical for any ADN program.
First quarter nursing students at CSCC - congrats!!! You have gone through the 'difficult first quarter' of nursing at the famous Columbus State. Bravo!
I see that the thread a long time ago started out "Unhappy with CSCC..." Please tell us if you are unhappy, or happy, or head spinning, lol.
What kinds of emotions do you think would best describe a student nurse from CSCC post Fall10 quarter?
What do we have to look forward to? What was the expected and the unexpected? Did you love the first quarter clinical? We are all the curious types about such things!

I'm not thrilled about the DNP requirement in 2015. It provides you ZERO clinical experience and ZERO science coursework. It would be very useful for those wanting to go into education, research, management, etc but useless for those of us who want to continuing practicing solely in the clinical setting. It just wastes our time and money. The requirement is definitely making me learn towards PA over NP now. PA gives me a lot more clinical experience (generally and in specialty areas) and more science coursework. *sigh*... we'll see.
