Hi everyone!
With the deadline only a little over a month away, I figured we all need a place to stress, hope and worry! I just took my first stab at the TEAS and hit the average score of the past few years (335). I have a 3.9 GPA. One pre-req left. Applying for ABSN. I'm scheduled for a second TEAS attempt next month. How is everyone else doing? Drooling over stats as much as I am?? Any interview preparation plans?
Missind, What a turn off! The folks at UNF have been more than awesome. I got my undergrad there and, while I was in a totally different mindset in my 20s, I can definitely say they have never given me any issues like that.Lexi, yay!! Happy all is in and off to a good start. I think that the interviews will be notified sometime in early February late January. I think that actual interview day is on the School of Nursing website. although I do not know your scores, I think that you are right we all have a great shot at interview.
I am not applying to University of Central Florida. I am trying to stay in Jacksonville. Which school is your first choice? I believe missind is applying to University of Central Florida as well
I agree that UNF has been amazing with the whole application process... So nice and helpful! Thanks for the positive thoughts for the transcript situation and for the info on interview info :) you are correct about the date being on the website, it is march 7th but hopefully we'll hear something soon... ucf says they might not tell you until a week out!! So crazy. I'm nervous about getting an interview because my gpa is not as high as everyone in here and I still have a&p ii left as well (pr is 3.6 and overall is only 3.5) but hopefully my teas will help since its a 90.7... oh well, cant do much but hope at this point!! But I think everyone sounds like they are set up pretty well. I'm not sure which school is my first choice actually... unf has been so amazing so far and I've heard great stuff... butttt I do live closer to orlando and ucf (plus my husband and home are here)... but I did my undergrad at ucf and didn't love the experience so hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get to decide after interviews.

I think you will be just fine! Your overall GPA doesn't matter. Your pre-req does, and I think it will be just fine! The averages just mean some are above and some might be below it. I think you will get an interview for sure.
My best friend went to UCF and she liked it, but didn't want to continue there with her Master's. I really liked UNF. I was more of a commuter student. I wouldn't mind a switch in schools but like you, my husband and 18 month old are here, so I'm trying to stay in Jacksonville. I don't think you should worry one bit! :)
Mr. Po Po, did she respond and tell you she received your application? I see my audit summary, but it hasn't been updated with my fall scores yet. Just that the scores have been received. I think Physical Therapy has a deadline of today! So she'll probably start working on nursing (I would hope so!) next week :)
I'm so nervous! I'm actually looking forward to finishing off Microbiology because at least it will give me something to do! I only work part-time so my days off are spent being nervous lol!!
Well so you got in, yay! What were your stats going in and any tips for the interview?! I actually have stalked the thread y'all used last year many times.. ha ha.
I have been stalking via the app not my computer, but now that Im on my computer a second, I wanted to answer for some interview tips. I think the best advice I can say is PRACTICE. Prepare, stalk the past questions asked, know WHY you want to be a nurse, why you're a good candidate for the program, what you bring to the table, why UNF. If you've done a mock interview at UNF (current students) or with a friend or family member, you will have time to think through some questions that might get thrown at you.
Arrive early on the day of the interview. This is especially important for you guys because you're coming while school is in session. The parking garage by the nursing building tends to fill up early. So if you are in the 2nd or 3rd group, get there early, get yourself a spot, go grab a coffee or just walk around and clear your mind. Parking is not as bad on Fridays as other days, but still, you dont want to be stressing that before going in for an interview this big.
Dress appropriately. They won't tell you what to wear but from my experience nice business or even suit is totally acceptable. Treat it like a job interview. (I wore a suit)
Before the interview, you'll have a ton of current students around, guiding you, answering questions, giving information. They are awesome sources of info so ask away - no question is stupid!! And listen to the advice they give you :) (I wish I was going to be there that day, but we have class on Friday mornings.. booo...)
The interview is NOT a competition. In my interview group I was definitely not the only one to get admitted. Make sure you answer each of the questions, do NOT interrupt, dont always be first to answer and don't always be last (they don't call on you, it's just kind of free format). It's not like anybody is keeping score but if you're aggressive and going first all the time that might not look good.
Best advice I got from my student guides before my interview: They are not going to ask you everything you want them to know about you, so you have to work it into your answers!!!
At the end of the interview, You will have time for asking questions. Make sure you go in with a few questions you'd like to ask. I don't even remember what I asked but there was a wide variety of questions. When you're in that discussion period, it's nice to play off what the others are saying "I really liked what Bob said about xyz and to add to that, blah blah blah". Teamwork is SO key in nursing school. Oh wait I remember, I asked the recent alumni if she had any tips/wisdom for an (aspiring) incoming nursing student.
Once the interview is over, the turnaround is quick. Stalk MyWings because if you're admitted, you will likely see it there before you get an email Nervewracking, I know!!
Good luck everyone!! :) Hope this helps a little!
Hello everyone! This is my second time applying (I applied for Fall 2013).I'm applying for the regular track, and I've heard so many different things about summer admissions! Some people say it's harder to get in during the summer and some people say it's easier. Anyway, I just hope I get in this time!
Thanks, sunbaby!! Sounds pretty similar to what has already been described about the interviews on the boards. So they must keep it pretty consistent!
Welcome, Strial! Sorry you didn't get in in the Fall, but happy to see you right back trying again this summer!! Do anything different to prepare you for the summer?
Deadline next week! Can't wait!! EEEK!
Thanks HellooNursh! I am even more determined this time! I've done a lot to prepare this time around, including various volunteer work. I'm pretty sure the whole reason I didn't get in last time was because I didn't have a whole lot to discuss during the interview, such as experience. If anyone has any questions about the interview or UNF in general, let me know. I'm a UNF student.
Ahh. Preparation is key! I bet you will get in this time now that you know what to expect. What kind of questions did they throw at you? Interviews can be so intimidating! Feeling more relaxed this time? I took the TEAS twice and even though I felt much more relaxed the second time, I only performed a teensy bit better, which in a way makes me feel OK with letting that go and moving on to the next challenge: interview! :)Thanks HellooNursh!
