UNF Summer 2014 BSN hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone!

With the deadline only a little over a month away, I figured we all need a place to stress, hope and worry! I just took my first stab at the TEAS and hit the average score of the past few years (335). I have a 3.9 GPA. One pre-req left. Applying for ABSN. I'm scheduled for a second TEAS attempt next month. How is everyone else doing? Drooling over stats as much as I am?? Any interview preparation plans?

Well.... sweet dreams tonight, everybody and good luck tomorrow!!

Thanks hellonursh, so helpful!!!. Like you, I'm in my early 30s so sounds like Southfield is right up my alley with a mix of things to do but safe. Thanks again

No problem! I think you will love Southside! I did! :-)

HellooNursh,

I'm going to take you up on your offer. ;) I looked at places while I was in Jax for the interview just in case I get accepted since I currently live in Connecticut. Anyway, my fiancé and I really liked three complexes.... 1) the Seagrass, 2) Coventry Park, and 3) Thorton Park. Are you familiar with any of these? Decent/safe places to live? They were certainly beautiful on the interior/exterior.

Thanks! -Sara

I started doing a little research online. I also really liked Coventry Park. I have two small dogs that are my babies!

I heard the JaxBeach area is dangerous. Is that true?

I was considering getting a house, but my husband will not be moving to Jax with me and I am pretty hesitant to stay in a house by myself. I'd feel much safer on the top floor of an apartment.

Jax beach isn't dangerous. I don't recommend staying in downtown jax beach just because living close to the bars isn't a good idea. But there are 4 beaches...neptune, jax, atlantic and ponte vedra. I've lived in jax and Atlantic and never had any problems with danger. I lived out there for 5 years. The only thing annoying was living in jax beach and trying to study when the bars and drunkies were leaving for the night. I totally recommend people find a place in south Jacksonville beach or atlantic beach. Ponte vedra is the money area.

I'm from Pensacola originally so living near the beach is tempting ;) Which is the nicest beach in terms of pretty sand/least amount of people. I am 28 btw. I like peace and quiet.

I'd be down with a retirement community lol.

If peace and quiet is your thing, I would totally cruise around 35th ave south and up closer to ponte vedra. Or, look at Atlantic Beach in the pine street area. Lots of hidden gems back there. Stay away from mayport

Pone vedra, that's about 20 mins from campus without traffic?

Does anyone have any idea what the lecture hours/clinical hours are like? How many 8-12 hour days?

Is it more expensive to live over that way compared to living around campus?

I'm getting way ahead of myself here, results aren't even out!

Basically you want to avoid anything from say, 15th ave south to 9th ave north. That is tourist area

The students who talked to my interview group were saying that on clinical days it's basically a 7a-7p shift, usually days with the occasional night or weekend shift depending on the semester/clinical placement. We apparently would have a modicum of choice in our placements (no idea how they determine who registers when) so if we get in, I assume you can try to choose clinicals closer to where you live to avoid a long commute to 12 hours shifts.
